Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Any tips for retaining Diamond status?

  • 5 posts

I have been fortunate enough to have Diamond status thanks to a lot of Business travel and nights away in the past, largely in the UK.
I have been able to retain my status through the pandemic and up to this year whilst the qualification rules were eased.
However, with much reduced business travel now, I am looking at dropping down a level – or possibly 2 levels!
Last year, I seem to remember Hilton ran a promotion later in the year which helped status retention.
Is anybody aware of any similar plans this year? Or any ways to boost my chances or staying at Platinum or Gold in the UK.
    Many Thanks.

This year the Diamond offer came out of nowhere in January, presumably when Hilton realised that they were underweight with Diamonds.

My plan has been to forget about trying to retain Diamond but with an eye to Hilton potentially rerunning this offer again, at which point I’d jump in.

If that fails, I have Hilton Gold via Amex Platinum and will be happy with that.

Hi Rob, could you please clarify the current Hilton offer – Hilton Honors is offering double or triple base points

Does this mean the double/triple base points earned on a stay all count towards elite status points required for renewal?

I thought I’d retain Diamond via autumn work travel (14 stays short of retention) but I’m moving home and changing jobs so it hasn’t happened. I intend to do the same as Rob – expect Gold but remain open to overtures from Hilton. I will at least get to -12 stays via natural spend related to moving so I will get the Amex 9K MR.

I am in the exact same boat. Last year, I was in the fourtante position of having had qualified for IHG Diamond plus the lounge pass but had a few more stays that I needed to do. This resulted in me focusing on Hilton for about 25 nights, 14ish stays to qualify for Diamond again via number of stays as that was my easiest route; even if it involved a lot of faff with moving hotels.

That they then went out in January and offered Diamond extension for one night (I think) really annoyed me as the extra nights in IHG would’ve pushed me to 70 nights and the extra benefits that brings via the milestones. As a result of that, I liquidated my Hilton points this year and will move to Gold unless an easy Diamond offer comes through in Jan.

Just an update on the original post.
I completed the required amount of nights for the fast track promotion.
Diamond has been granted until end March 2026 so I am delighted about that – well worth the additional stays as I had planned breaks for the vast majority anyway.

    Congratulations.
If you’d like to go on a mattress run, you have a new option now – Spark by Hilton at Romford.
