Discuss today's stories:
Hi all. Lapsed Avios fan here – I’ve all but given up the hobby in recent years but have an old companion voucher that I’d like to preserve. It expires in March but I understand that I can refresh it to Sept 23 by using it and then canceling the booking.
I’ve got a few questions before I go ahead – any help welcome:
1) Do I need to do this before 4 Jan? The recent BA guidance would suggest so: https://www.britishairways.com/travel/flightops/execclub/_gf/en_gb?p_faqid=8778
2) I no longer have an amex account. I assume I’ll need to borrow one to book a flight (I thought I had to use an amex to pay the cash element of the booking when using a companion voucher), but is there a risk that i will “lose” it when I cancel the booking because I no longer have an amex account? I’m sure that is a risk that Amex warned me about when I canceled my last one.
Thanks!
The 4th of Jan is of no relavanace to your situation
As long as you use an Amex card to pay the cash element there won’t be an issue. It does not have to be the same card that you used to generate the voucher.
When you use the 2-4-1 for the placer booking to extend it you need to take an FTV for it and that is what protects the voucher.
