Forums Payment cards American Express Amex uk gold refund protection urgent please

    Hi,
Please can I ask you question on aMex Uk gold refund protection?
I booked nimax theatre tickets for one of my guest and they had to leave because of health issues back to India. The tickets are booked for 6th July.
Nimax are refusing to cancel refund it but ready to exchange it.
Can aMex insurance help in the refund here? Value is £199.

    Thanks
    Raj

I have a feeling that the Amex insurance only covers events outside the UK, but the best thing would be to contact them and ask.

The Gold insurance for refund / purchase protection is in fact only valid for the UK. The purchase protection is for loss or damage to an item purchased with the card, and the refund protection is clearly aimed at goods rather than services if you look at the policy. I don’t think either would apply, so you are stuck with the T&Cs of the theatre / ticket agency.

Apologies – I was referring to the travel insurance element as it sounded as though the event was part of a trip. My understanding is that if the OP is UK-based, any travel claims can only be for trips outside the UK,

But did the friend in fact have any travel insurance which might cover missed events etc?

There is no travel insurance on the Gold card. There is travel inconvenience insurance that gives a bit of money for delayed flights and bags.
I don’t see any exclusions for UK trips.

The refund protections lists “tickets” in its exclusions explicitly (and services as well, if tickets were not excluded already).

https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/benefits/preferred-rewards-gold-card/insurance.html – there’s some sort of illness cover, which must be what I was thinking of. Sorry if I’ve caused any confusion!

I am based in the uk but booking was made in the name of the child using my Amex gold uk card. The child is Indian citizen and was here on a break. Booking was meant to be done for 6th June but mistakenly done for 6th July. As well, due to health issues had to leave early back to India. I did see the exclusion on refund protection and it exclude tickets. I did someone’s post on another forum saying Amex refunded for theatre tickets due to Covid
