Hi All, I recently got a statement credit offer for World of Hyatt through my BAPP, It was a good offer (£100 off a £250 stay) and I had a trip to coming up to Stockholm so diligently found a participating hotel and booked a room.
However, it transpires the rate I booked at was at 100% advance “deposit” which has been charged remotely when the T&C’s of the offer state the card has to be used in person and the statement credit did not track.
I realise this is probably a lesson about reading the Terms and conditions properly before booking in future but was wondering if in practice this “deposit” could be fully refunded and I could pay in person with my card at the hotel to take advantage of the statement credit. I’m not sure if anyone has experience of this sort of thing?
Thanks
You can call the hotel and ask if they will be able to refund the payment and take payment at the hotel. They may also be able to issue the refund at check-in/check-out and take payment again on a “different” card. They might not be flexible though as it’s a prepaid rate.
You might have some luck asking Amex if they can apply the credit, although they’ll probably tell you the usual “wait 90 days then call us again”.
Thanks for the advice, I’ll probably end up chalking it up as a lesson for next time as it’s probably not worth all the faff. I did pay with the right card just not in the right way. All the more annoying as the fully refundable non deposit option would have been about £5 more so I still would have been £95 up had a gone with it!
You could try calling hyatt and asked them to refund you from the cheaper rate and rebook the refundable rate if the diff is only £5. They might be happy to change it without penalty since you are paying them more?
I have accidentally booked a room for immediate use instead of 5 months away and they changed it for me. Also moved a reward booking ahead by one day even when the website said no.
In most cases you would have been fine. 90%+ of hotels process advance bookings on site and the cashback triggers. You were unlucky.
It can also take a while for statement credit to show. I had a prepaid booking credit showing 2 months after the end of the promo once. I usually never chase. There’s still time for it to show up.
