Forums Payment cards American Express Bluechain – Amex Premium Rewards & Billhop replacement?

    Just found this company.

My Amex account manager suggested I try it.

However not sure if I ought to go for a personal account or a business account.

    Is there any difference?

When I signed up you seem to get a personal and a business account but you have to use your personal email to log in and can swap between the accounts once logged in.

Oddly it doesn’t recognise my company number haha!

I think everyone with Gold/Plat business gets one.

I have an account but I think use is for niche purposes outside of the promo periods.

Doing a bank transfer is free and instant. They’re competing with a service that takes a couple of working days to make the transfer and costs 2.5% for points that are worth 1%, maybe a little more in some cases.

There might be a use if you need to hit a sign up bonus target, or if somebody else is paying the fee. But I can’t see a case for ongoing use unless the fee is reduced.

The MCC they use is excluded from the rewards programmes on some cards. No credit cards I know of but definitely some of the crypto rewards cards.

I believe Capital on Tap will be launching a similar service later in the year.

So you can’t do HMRC payments which is a shame but I have plenty of suppliers that require payments via BACS.

As far as I can tell:

    Fee is 2.3% on Amex
This fee includes VAT, which is reclaimable
The fee itself can be offset against tax
I get the points from the “purchase”

Seems pretty much cost-neutral and if one was after a spending target then this is a good way to achieve it.

The 0.75% cost for a debit card is more rewarding when curve paired with Barclays avios or Virgin rewards cards.

Not if one has a tier points goal

@BBB just checking there are no nasty fees from virgin credit card from using with bluechain ?

@BLT, I haven’t tried using Virgin card, but I suspect it should be fine.

Crazy. Is that because they couldnt differentiate business cards?

Curve with VS+ was good (while it lasted).

No idea. Seems pointless now when using Amex is less! Was this the only conduit after Billhop or are there other alternatives out there?

If my company paid me dividends this way… would I meet my sign up bonus spend without too many issues?

One can only pay to companies. Also you need an invoice.

Thanks. Knew it was too good to be true. Back to the drawing board

    Hi all,

Just completed my first invoice payment with Bluechain and Amex Business Plat – I have the points and the supplier has been paid, so very happy I can now use this for other suppliers – got quite a few stock purchases to make with Christmas coming up so the points will rack up quickly I hope!! I do find the Bluechain website a bit clunky though, had to log out and log in to confirm changes in my account etc, plus chat took 4 hours to respond to a query. Otherwise all good! Plus following an earlier comment, there is no vat on the invoice (convenience fee) from them.

I successfully paid a deposit into the Deposit Protection Scheme – it took 1 working day. Just have to remember to set the bill up and then create a payment. I’ve also tried to pay a sole trader (a decorator) using bluechain: I have the invoice and you just fire off a google form. It’s been 1 business day, and should take 5 business days. Have people had success setting up a new sole trader?

    Hi
I have just gone onto the BILLHOP site to set up a new account to pay all my regular company bills and expenses via my BA Amex Premium card …

Problem is it has a min threshold for companies of 10 employees and 2M Euro turnover. ???

What other similar bill payment services are available out there for very small companies like mine which is just my wife and I as directors.

I would also like a personal account to pay hefty regular personal bills like council tax, utilities and car pcp via a portal .
    Thanks
