Hi All,
I am reading the Terms and Conditions on insurance exclusions for pre-existing medical conditions. Considering Plat for the upgraded bonus currently running. The Ts&Cs clearly state:
! You will not be paid for claims directly or indirectly as a result of: ! Pre-existing Medical Conditions other than those on the Accepted Conditions list available by visiting americanexpress.com/uk/insuranceportal.
I have very mild Asthma. Well managed by a preventer inhaler. There is no risk of a medical emergency resulting from this condition. The only possible situation I can envisage is losing a preventer inhaler and having to get a new one (probable a couple of hundred dollars in the Us), and paying out of pocket.
My question is what does Amex mean by “indirectly”. Could they refuse a claim if I get hit by a bus.
Do I have to declare “I have no pre-existing conditions” when opting into insurance during the application? or do I have to simply acknowledge that related claims will not be paid?
@saintsman1980 – unfortunately it can be whatever Amex (or its claims handling agent) want it to be! It would only be at the point of claim that they would assess whether there might be any potential link to your asthma as this isn’t in their list of accepted pre-existing conditions, along with other big omissions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Other packaged travel insurance policies such as HSBC Premier allow asthma as a pre-existing condition, so you would be much safer with any policy that explicitly allows it.
