Amex chat have just told me that the 5000 point bonus for adding the first supplementary card to your platinum account is once per lifetime. This was news to me but I’ve checked the terms and it does seem to be correct unfortunately. Nevertheless I’ll wait a little longer and then see if I can claim it!
Not sure if this applies to the bonuses on the other cards but guessing it probably does.
To quote the terms “The bonus Membership Rewards points offer is valid for the first approved Supplementary Platinum Card only. Please note, in rare circumstances it may take up to 90 days for the 5,000 Membership Rewards points to be applied to your Account. You may apply for several Supplementary Cards but you will only receive the 5,000 membership Rewards points for the first approved Card. You will not receive this bonus if you have ever received it before. This offer is subject to change and may be withdrawn at anytime.”
Every time I chase for the supp bonus I do fear they’ll quote this to me! (Same term is quoted on every supplementary bonus, i.e. BAPP, Gold etc, it’s not just Platinum).
However not been an issue and I’ve certainly had the bonuses multiple times over my lifetime.
“You will not receive this bonus if you have ever received it before…”
This has always been ambiguous, does it mean:
– for this active card this time
– for this card type ever (even on new accounts)
– for any card ever (even new accounts)
The first way is how it’s always operated to my knowledge.
I was told the same but it’s not clear the quote ‘You will not receive this bonus if you have ever received it before’ is your lifetime or lifetime of this card. So I still get the bonus the end
Ever used to mean ever on that card account (how it’s worked for me in the past) … ever meaning lifetime seems strange but I guess it’s possible.

I agree, so if you get a second SUPP card, or cancel all SUPPs then later add one back on, you wouldn’t get the bonus again on that card. But if you cancel the card, and later sign up again you could get the bonus for adding your first SUPP.
