Amex Platinum Cashback cardholder – referral bonus if I get a Gold card too?

Hello,

I am thinking of getting a Gold card to eventually replace my Cashback card as the reduced % and increased threshold has meant it’s not gaining me much of a reward.

I have asked Amex over the phone and through the chat function and both times they have said that although I wouldn’t get the welcome bonus, I would get the referral bonus if someone refers me.

Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have any explanation as to how this works? The current welcome bonus is 20k and the referral bonus is 22k. Would I only get the 2k or the whole 22k?

Chat is wrong.

The person who refers you WOULD get their bonus. You get nothing.

You CAN get the bonus on BA Premium Plus or The Platinum Card as they have different rules.

Really weird that both reps on the chat and over the phone were wrong but I definitely believe you over them! Either way, I’ll use a referral to benefit my mate at least.
