Amex Plat charge card welcome bonus – refund treatment?

Once you hit the 4K spend , when do the sign up bonus points (70k) post

Also if you then have a couple of refunds back into the account what happens with regards to the sign up points ? Do they take from membership reward account ?? i.e they take the 70k back out

They’ll hit as soon as the transaction posts, usually within a few days.

Yes, if you have a refund the points are clawed back, if you then spend again to take you over, within the time limit, they’ll post back again.

If you transfer all the points out and then your refund comes your account ends up in a negative balance.

With my PlatBus card I had to chase 3 times over several weeks to get it posted, so do keep an eye on it.

Yes.

My post above refers to standard points and the sign up.

Thanks Stevej if I transfer the points over to BA once there showing on that account ,then the refund is processed on card will Amex let you close account without charge if there is a negative balance of 74k points

Yes, no charge.

If you do something like this regularly you could damage your relationship with Amex and theoretically could flag, in the back end, on their systems as someone they choose not to do business with. As a one off it’ll be fine and has been done by many before.

Correct, they will. That is a pretty aggressive approach to their rewards though so don’t be entirely surprised if you struggle to get a future application approved. If it was my business and had previously dished out that many points to you, I wouldn’t want to see you return!
