So been using a few cards recently from Amex sign up offers and now just waiting on my gold card that will require me to spend 3k in 3 months.
On holiday for almost about 8 weeks over that time and will be using fee free cards that i gave.
I am short of about £1200 to get the sign up. Any suggestions already have plenty of gift cards and most ‘other’ bills pre paid now for a bit.
Suggestion would be not to buy things you dont need, it will just add up to more debt
However a friend of a friend said you can book a refundable hotel, hit the points and reconsider
You can do this to trigger a 241 BA voucher, but with Gold it will result in the bonus being removed. If already transferred out you will go negative which is ok but could have long term repercussions if you cancel.
If you have a long established and well used PayPal account, a £500 ‘friends and family’ payment to a mate should not trigger an account lockdown. Don’t try this otherwise.
How about you just use it for the fx spend and consider the bonus plus extra MR cover the fee.
Rather than tying up cash unnecessarily on things you don’t need.
Only offset might be some 10% off Morrisons gift cards if you have the offer.
I’m spending my Gold abroad to hit the £3K because I’m viewing the 3% to be cancelled out when I get the bonus. I’ll be like £600 short if I don’t use the card abroad, so might as well. Plus, you get double points which is somewhat lowering the 3% down a tiny bit.
So 3% of £1,200 is £36 in fees, and if we assume 1% cashback for the fee free cards, you’re losing out on £48 in raw value. Once you get the points, you could get £160 for 20,000 points or £240 for 30,000 points. If you don’t want to spend it later, then yeah, using the fee free card and not getting the bonus would be the better choice.
For me, by spending £600 abroad with £18 in fees, it will net me a gain of about £142.
When does the £140 annual fee for year 2 get billed on PRG? My 2nd year started yesterday and I expected the fee to be applied immediately, but no sign of it. Could I be lucky and not get billed!🤞

You probably will get billed. The anniversary dates and billing dates aren’t necessarily aligned. My anniversary date (ie the date by which you need to spend £15k) is 27 Dec but my billing date is 23rd of the month, so the annual fee is charged just before 23 Jan and the annual bonus points arrive around a week later.
Okay, bad news but thanks JDB. Thought I may have been forgotten about.
Thanks for the replies guys
Paypal trick i just done a few weeks ago with same spend suggested funny enough so not wanting to temp fate again.
Someone on another post did suggest a FTV with BA so thinking about that as will use BA a few times in the next year or so
I might take the hit on the FX spend as in the grand scheme of things its not that much
