Does the bonus post immediately/ few days, or does it post quarter end?
“You will receive an additional 10,000 bonus Membership Rewards points whenever you spend £20,000 in a calendar quarter (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec).”
The monthly one on platinum posts when the threshold is passed.
I need to run the numbers on keeping plat vs gold; I ascribe no value to the platinum benefits other than the bonus points for spending.
Assuming 120k spend/year, valuing an MR at 1p, Gold Amex earns £ 1405 and Platinum earns £ 1750.
For the same spend BA Accelerating Business earns £ 1640 at 0.9p per Avios, or £ 1850 at 1p per Avios.
Combining Gold and BA AB (and hitting both spend targets) earns less than just the BA AB at any sensible valuation of MR or Avios in my spreadsheet. Similarly, if your focus is Avios, the Platinum business and BA AB combined doesn’t make much sense even for a very heavy spender (20k/month): you may as well just have the BA AB.
I had assumed if you could spend >10k/month on business platinum it was a ‘no brainer’, but it turns out BA AB is likely the better choice unless you highly value Gold/Platinum benefits, or want points diversity from Avios.
