Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Business Gold – advice pls

  • 160 posts

    Hi all,

Currently have the Amex Nectar, so i know that the only cards i can get a bonus on are Platinum / BAPP / Business Gold or Business Plat.

I am thinking Business Gold, I am Self Employed ( Sole Trader )
How strict are they on using a dedicated current account for business ? Have used my personal current account for a dozen years or so ( just get one incoming payment/invoice per month ) and i dont generate a lot of expenses, mainly diesel ..

Related to above, and i’m thinking of the spend 3K in 90 days to qualify for bonus – my diesel spend wouldnt get me there, would i get grief from Amex if i put a holiday/flights spend on the card ? I would probably apply when i knew i had a holiday etc coming up.

Finally , if i applied via HfP would i get extra bonus MR ? – remember getting extra for the “personal” Gold several years ago when i applied via Rob’s ref.

    Thanks

A holiday or another small amount of personal spend isn’t going to be spotted by Amex *but* you will probably find you are unprotected for things like Section 75 cover. I would not put a holiday on a business Amex charge card for this reason — use a proper, personal credit card.

No. Although if you had a Buy To Let or did a lot of eBay stuff you may believe you are in business.

Good point memesweeper – thanks, i hadnt considered the Section 75 implications. Apologies for delayed reply by the way.
