Discuss today's stories:
My wife has just had her American Express Rewards account closed due to inactivity – 12 months. Amex have given her 30 days to spend her points or lose them. The problem is we cannot access her credit card AMEX account to transfer them to Avios or Marriott or Radisson.
What should she do in this situation to either rescue her points or spend them, preferably not lose them ?
Perhaps – and this could be a radical idea – she should phone Amex and ask to be let back into her account so she can transfer them or they could transfer them for her?
Thanks
I rang up. They will not reinstate. We need to spend them and this can now only be done over the phone.
We have 30 days to decide
It sounds pretty simple. Decide where you want them transferred, call Amex and they’ll do it.
I’d transfer to Avios, you then have the option to transfer to Nectar for shopping at Sainsburys or Argos.
Just one more question – if she re-applies for the Amex Rewards Card would we be able to re-attach the points to the new account. Perhaps a question we should have asked AMEX but we didn’t.
