Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help American Airlines question

  • 46 posts

    Hello

I have booked a cash flight in July from Dublin to Las Vegas connecting in Charlotte, North Carolina. I booked via American Airlines website, selected the “Business/First” option from the dropdown box and got a very reasonable price but there is one thing confusing me. AA have seated us in economy class Y for the Charlotte-Las Vegas leg of the trip yet the other 3 legs are all an I class ticket. Business (DUB-CLT), First (LAS-CLT) and Business (CLT to DUB).

It seems the AA web booking portal automatically did this on moving to the final web page to pay. Now, we’re not overly fussed about this as its just a few hours but I’m curious to know why this happened or was it a genuine error? I’ve checked and there is still availability on the same flight in all cabin classes.

    Any ideas?

Call the Aa UK reservations line and they should be able to fix this.

Had this happen to me before and a call sorted it out. They had no idea why it happened as they could see the J availability/

It may have involved a cancel and rebook situation but it was a good few years ago so my memory is a little foggy on the details.

Mine was an SFO-JFK flight so rather important for me to be in J not Y. Not only for comfort byut also the TPs!

Thanks Chris. Flip, didn’t realise the reduction in tier points! I’ll give them a ring and report back. I’ll be closing in on silver so it will be more important!

I had a very similar issue last year with BA (on an AA-operated flight). I called BA and they fixed it immediately on the phone – same response as ChrisC got – no idea why it happened since there was the J availability.

However, my dad is now having the same issue and BA is refusing to do anything about that – they’re saying he picked economy (1 flight out of 6) and they want to charge 50% of the original ticket price to upgrade that one leg. Tried 3 different agents, always same outcome – refusing to do anything and advising to raise a complaint. Any other ideas than going down the complaint route and hope for the best?
