I’ve around 20K miles with AA that I need to use up or do something with by the end of April, any chance of extending the expiry of these at all? I currently have no use and would like to preserve these for later on when I plan to visit the US later on the year. Would appreciate any help! I know i can purchase miles but paying $75 for 2000 miles is a bit too much. Any pointers here?
I believe your best options are to make a $25 donation:

Donate 1,000 miles:

Or the shopping portal would work too but I think you might need to be American to register for it.
@Frogee’s suggestion of donating 1,000 of your miles may be the safest approach. I think American used to have a UK shopping portal but even if it still exists shopping portals can be tricky in terms of timing and there is always the risk of them being clawed back for unknown reasons.
Can you book a flight for a future date using the miles and then either change the date or cancel for a refund later on?
Or if you cancel does that result in the miles being forfeited?
You can also buy 1000 miles or book a cheap hotel in Asia via Rocketmiles.

There are no cancelation fees or penalties with AA and I think this might extend the miles. I’d suggest buying 1k miles though.

look at it as though your spending $75 to buy 22k miles which bearing in mind you’re about to lose 20k is good value.
Once you have protected your miles, be aware that you can redeem then on any One World Airline.
I used mine on JAL for a domestic flight from Tokyo to Osaka.
@meta Thanks for replying. Good to know but I agree easiest is to just buy the minimum miles especially if there is an intention to redeem them shortly.

In a similar situation and interested to know if this works. Alternatively I was going to transfer a few Marriott Bonvoy points to AA, I assume they’ll be a minimum transfer figure however the conversion rate is reasonable.
I am sure there is a restaurant app that earns AA miles?
Even if you have tio put in a US address, I am sure you can find one!
Many thanks everyone much appreciated! Will look into all these suggestions and hopefully find a way to prevent these from expiring.
