Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Ambassador v Diamond at IHG Berlin

  • 23 posts

I’ve got a 2 night stay coming up at the IHG Berlin with my family in a 1 king bed premium room (2 adults, 2 children – room has a sofabed).
Currently diamond, I am debating whether to upgrade to ambassador but can’t see any room types that we would likely get as an upgrade that would improve our stay – higher floor, different view etc won’t have much impact on the stay. I assume an upgrade to a club room is unlikely. Does anyone think there is a realistic prospect of a valuable upgrade as diamond ambassador over just diamond?

Not really no.but would the other benefits like free weekend night and 4pm check out be helpful otherwise? I wouldn’t be taking out Ambassador purely on the basis of impressive room upgrades.

I assume you are referring to the Intercontinental Berlin?

Personally, I am a big fan of the premium rooms – they are large and generally have lovely views over the zoo. I would even go as far as saying I prefer them over most suites, which feel a bit cramped as the individual rooms are pretty small.

However, as there is 4 of you the premium room will feel busy with the sofabed pulled out. There is still space to move around, but it won’t be amazing. It’s hard to say what your chances would be of an upgrade to a suite during the summer, probably not hugely high. And I don’t think they’d be impacted by whether your are just Diamond or Diamond Ambassador.

I had assumed that I wouldn’t be able to use the weekend voucher on this stay as there was no availability for my credit card free night voucher – but appears they don’t look at the same inventory. Will email the hotel and see what they say – if I can use it, it’s a no brainer (then just need to generate the additional on site spend to hit the amex offer – it’s a strange hobby….)

Yes, a moments confusion with all their brands 🙂
