Forums Payment cards American Express Am I missing something?

  • 4 posts

    Hi all

I have a Gold Amex card and I was just looking to book some flights to the US via the reward flight finder.

Am I missing something or are the reward flights never that great? The best they could offer me is £450ish plus 50,000 points which seems ridiculous when you can buy a flight with another airline for about £580 and every time I’ve looked at other flights, it’s always made more sense to just pay fully in cash

    Thanks

Where are you looking to go and who are you booking it with, it’s not clear at all from your post what you’re trying to do? I’m not sure how reward flight finder fares (which show availability for BA avios seats) would relate to the Amex gold card, which is what is confusing me! 50,000 avios plus £450 sounds like it could be an avios return fare to the Caribbean in economy via ba.com, in which case the pricing would be about right.

Remember also that economy flight you are comparing to (£580) isn’t a fully flexible fare that you are effectively getting with an avios booking. But economy fares are not normally the best use of avios.

Sorry, ignore this, I think I posted it in the wrong section…!

Should probably been in the BA Avios area
