Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Al Safwa Lounge Doha – BA Gold not enough

  • 1 post

I guess most of you will know the hack of booking an onward flight from Doha which as a business booking is locally graded as first class. This gives you access to the coveted Al Safwa lounge in Doha. Luxury coached from the lounge to the aircraft, amazing cuisine, etc.
I wanted to share that having just made BA Gold -I thought that on my business ticket I would be able to use the Al Safwa lounge. No such luck – was turned away to the regular business lounge (which is stil good). Ho hum.

Yeah a QRPC Platinum member can get in on a business ticket, but not the oneworld equivalent.

Aha, the lounge dragons are legion.

Don’t worry Mark, the facilities and spaciousness are great but other than that you haven’t missed a thing. Contrary to what those in the blogosphere claim, there is no “amazing cuisine” to speak of. Unless Wetherspoons now meets that standard. It pales in comparison to La Premiere CDG or Swiss First ZRH. Al Mourjan is an absolutely wonderful place to spend a few hours in transit (as one waits patiently for a shower to become available).

I don’t know how Qatar managed to mess up the Al Safwa lounge so much. It’s huge! But also strangely empty. And yet massively under-provisioned in terms of facilities capacity. Last time I was in there, it was a 3 hour wait for a shower, and a 6 hour wait for a sleeping room!

At least there’s plenty of seats to nap (uncomfortably) on whilst you wait an age for a shower to be free….

It looks nice, and the huge open spaces are impressive, but somehow they couldn’t pop in a few more showers and rooms?

You can sleep in the family rooms – I’ve done it a few times and they were all empty even when the sleeping rooms were occupied
