Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Air Canada flight change – not sure of my options

  • 140 posts

I have a return flight booked with Air Canada. Dublin – EWR via YYZ then returning BOS – LHR via YYZ. All on one booking. I recently received an email saying that the first leg of the return flight (BOS to YYZ) had been changed. The time has changed slightly and it has a new flight number. It talks about refund if I cant travel etc etc.
My question is, if I fly the outbound, (Which I have to) what are my options in regards to the inbound? I’m not sure if its covered by EU261 as it’s the first leg, although it is all part of one ticket. Ideally I’d like to fly the outbound, and then get a refund for the return portion. Anyone know if that’s an option? Thanks

I’m not 100% familiar with Air Canada policies but I doubt this will be possible. Flying the outbound will process an acceptance of the schedule change

You could check if there are any one way tickets or better options and take the refund and book that instead

EU261 does not apply as the affected leg isn’t a flight to Europe and it’s operated by a non European carrier anyway.

I thought there was a ruling a while ago that if you have a connecting flight to Europe, both sections are covered by EU261.. I’m probably wrong. No worries

Only if the TATL is on a European carrier such as BA,VS, AF, AY etc

The judgment to which I think you are probably referring was on United departing from the EU. All carriers have to offer UK/EU261 departing from Europe but it doesn’t apply to third country carriers on the return.
