Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Advice on best card options

Hello, we’ve had the amex credit card for a few years (charge card first then cc). We take annual trips to Mauritius as a family of 4 (airline only as we stay mostly with family and 3 nights or so at hotels). We used to value the flexibility of membership rewards points as it gives access to several airlines, but recently found the Gatwick BA flight to be the most convenient/kid friendly and believe we’re going to carry on this way (we’ve booked two people of avios for next year already), so now thinking:
    – convert amex to free card to retain amex pts, we’ve hit the bonus pts for the year
    – get avios paying one to maximise avios pts and get 2 for 1 upgrade
    – get MasterCard avios plus, downgrade at £3k spend

Does the above sound ok? We’re about to book a February half term via Eurostar/Disney Paris, so wanting to purchase it via avios plus mastecard

Also anyone aware of bonus avios for the MasterCard? No urgency on Feb half term booking

What Amex Charge and the CC have you had? I’m guessing Gold?

Who is main card holder? It sounds like you are a couple, so player 2, if not been the primary Amex card holder for 2+ years, could be in line for multiple sign up bonuses.

A bit more detail needed. I’d probably be recommending one of you taking a two year break from Amex while the other sucks up Amex sign up bonuses (first being a referral from the current Amex primary card holder). Barclaycard is a good interim card whilst on an Amex break.

    Sorry, yes amex gold

I’m the main cardholder yep. How do the sign on bonus for amex stack up at the moment?
