I have an existing booking on IB to SCL coming up soon which I’m going to be changing to amend the outbound and I thought I should add the MAD-LHR leg to the booking but I can’t find the extra Avios and tax this would add to the booking. I’ve tried doing a dummy booking but BA say they can’t price it.
I know this has been discussed but I’ve searched both using Google and looking back at the forum but I can’t find the answer. Does anyone know what the answer is.
Thanks.
This may or may not help but I booked DUB-LHR-MEX recently and the DUB leg in economy added about 9k avios. I don’t know what the cash amount would be as of course this reduced our surcharges by £600!
Hi, no one knows what it will cost in terms of the taxes as it will need to be recalculated at todays rates when the ticket goes to be reissued so you might get hit with a YQ increase from the original booking date, or as sometimes happens with IB you actually benefit as a through ticket is issued. IB do appear to be doing some tinkering with the taxes so using Matrix isn’t an accurate guide either.
As a rough guide the standalone flight MAD-LHR is 15,000 Avios plus about 30 euro
It might cost you a large amount of fees as flight will be taxed as LHR not cheap MAD.
You will have to call BA but prepare to book it separately.

Not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion ? Seems to be a MAD-SCL-MAD flight where the OP wants to make the booking MAD-SCL-MAD-LHR
Use the IB website and try a dummy somewhere-MAD-LHR vs somewhere-MAD and that will give you an idea of the difference in avios and taxes.
This won’t increase the price significantly. The prices go up when you leave the UK not when you fly back.
From what you say, you already have MAD-SCL-MAD and want to change both the outbound (MAD-SCL) and then change the inbound to SCL-MAD-LHR. I don’t know if that will be allowed or if you will need to cancel, expect the flights to go back to inventory and book them again adding LHR.
I recently booked MAD-EZE-MAD-LHR over the phone. The agent couldn’t see the price so had to do it manually. So it is true they may not be able to do it but not right to say they cannot book and charge you.
Adding a leg MAD-LHR should work – I have done it with a MAD-SJO-MAD 241 booking. Expect to pay around the price of the MAD-LHR flights and the change fee. If the agent reprices the whole ticket and quotes much more than the added flight cost, HUACA (or try it via X).
I found our costs to adding the leg (on a BA flight in CE):
Increase in Avios – 22,250 Avios
Increase in Tax – £28.00 per person
Change Fee – £35.00 per person
Service Fee – £15.00 per person
Total = £156.00 + 22,250 Avios
(The Service Fee was dropped after stating that it is not possible to do the change online.)
To answer my own question – in addition to changing the outbound so that we have an open jaw flying in to Eze and back from SCL I added MAD-LHR which added 15,000 Avios and £29 (plus the change fee of course). Very helpful agent – I was dreading it as I thought that on NYE I might get through to India!
