Forums Payment cards American Express Adding a supplementary card – how long to arrive?

  • 357 posts

I applied to add my OH on my account (Gold card) and required proof of address and ID, which I submitted in the early hours of Monday. How long does this sort of process normally take?

If she gets confirmed, does a card arrive separately with the pin or just the card gets posted to my address?

Are there anything I should be aware of for the additional user?

Supplementary cards are sent to the primary cardholder.

OH WILL get their own cardholder offers but only if they register the card for an online Amex account.

    That’s nice.

I’m assuming she can then use this account to manage her own cards in the future.

Surprisingly, the card arrived today but I didn’t receive any email communication from Amex to tell me it the application was successful and that a card was on the way. I also barely get any emails for this account which makes me thing something is wrong with the communications settings, though everything seems fine.

Regarding the card, am I meant to add the card to my account and she adds it to hers as well?

I cannot see the card in my account on the app or online, so I think I need to activate it first. Or I’m just looking at the wrong place.

No, you won’t see the card in your account, although you will be able to see the spend.

So your wife just needs to activate the card in her app. If you haven’t received the PIN yet, you can see it in her app. If you do change the PIN in her app, be mindful that you still need to use the original PIN for 1 transaction first, so make sure you don’t forget that.

Thanks, I’ve let her know. Everything is sorted now.

    Not quite true.

If using the web browser, when on the Account Home screen, you can select your card from the top right of the banner (where the icon and last 4 digits are showing) and a modal window expands. Here you have a link that allows you to “View Additional Cardmembers”. It just shows the name(s) though.

I thought the card would show up as well and we’re just shown the account.

Is the additional card also come as a metal
    Card or plastic?

My card is a Gold card and they’re both plastic. I wonder if it’s even coming, and I don’t want to pay extra for it, yuck.

One thing I noticed was that the stamping of the card number included the gold and black colour of the card. Normally, the stamped number and text are (shiny) silver, but it’s not for her 🤣. Makes it hard to read the number from certain angles.

Hey guys, regarding the additional user, she’s in a separate address.

Amex advised me to tell her to use my billing address but she’s used her own address for 3 payments and it’s gone through. So, was the Amex rep wrong in this case and that her address as the billing address is fine?
