Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club 241 + Barclaycard voucher strategy – have I got this right?

I took out the BAPP cad this time last year with the aim of earning a 241 and getting from Belfast to Australia next January. I knew it was going to be a big spending (for me anyway) year and managed to hit the £10k before the £15k threshold was applied. I’ve cobbled together a return trip for two via Singapore which has cost me around £3,500 which apart from one flight with Jetstar from Singapore to Perth is all BC. This is probably
about £400 cheaper than buying a couple of Economy tickets so I’m happy enough but as so many of the HfP writers point out you learn from your mistakes and I’m aware that I made a few.

I’m gaming out My next trip for January 28 and would like some opinions on what I’ve come up with. Bear in mind that I’m visiting Perth and I’m not sure I want to go all the way to Sydney, then back again to Perth.

My anniversary date is March 31. I calculate that I’ll hit the £15k spend around mid November. My plan is to stop spending on the BAPP at just short of £15k, take out the Barclaycard Avios card and spend the £10k required to trigger their voucher. Them I would use the Barclaycard voucher for BHD/Sin then SIN/PER return on my own steam and finally SIN/BHD with the 241 voucher. Alternatively I might go BHD/DOH with the vouchers and then DOH/PER with QR using Avios.

It might seem to be a lot of faffing around considering one voucher could do it but it’s around five months of “dead” spending voucher wise! Including the highest spending months of the year plus it allows more freedom to trigger the vouchers at the optimum time. And the clincher has to be that KFC don’t take Amex!

So does anyone see any flaws? Or can anyone suggest any tweaks.
