I have a booking for the end of August from a free night certificate that was expiring Dec 2021.
Now, it doesn’t really fit into our plans. I was wondering if I’d cancel would it renew itself with a new date or would I lose it?I’m pretty sure you’d lose it; IHG stopped giving out extensions some time ago. I’ve never heard of a particular hotel being able to help either, they always seems to say you have to cancel and rebook – which of course is no help if you then lose the certificate.
IHG would technically be able to move it for you but you might need a better reason than it not fitting in with your plans!

I think the expiry date is supposed to be ‘book by’ rather than ‘book and stay by’ (for the Creation version, not the Chase version). There was a HfP post on this being fixed back in November, but I’m currently arguing with IHG about booking for beyond the date.
Anyone had any recent experience of this?
Yes, it was book by Dec 2021, stay by Aug 2022
