Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

I am soon at the stage to have 100000 MR points.
– I have enough Avios for now (300000+), possibly can do with a few more VA miles (100000+).
– I have about 70000 Marriott points left. I have very few Hilton (20000) and IHG points (10000)
I am London-based. I am not familiar with other hotel schemes or other airline schemes, so I wonder if it is worth moving them to a new airline or hotel scheme. I usually find something where I want to go with Marriott and good award availability with Marriott. I do not want to move more points to Marriott however at present, given the changes to the program (when will they be announced, so I know if I want to move more to Marriott?)
I am not fancying moving points to Hilton either.
Upcoming long-haul flights will most likely be to the USA, Mexico, Caribbean e.g. Dominican Republic, and Colombia.
I guess my Avios and VA miles cover me for all of these besides getting to Colombia (at least not on a direct flight, I am aware I can take American Airlines to Colombia via the USA).
Is it worth considering another airline scheme given my travel plans?
Transfer them to BA and then to Nectar to give you £800 to spend.

…. but, basically, it makes more sense to sit on them until your travel plans crystalise. You can then get the exact deal you want.

The new Barclaycard means many of us will be paring back our Amex cards and possibly holding the Nectar for two years to reset the time period on MR and Avios Amex cards. Coupled with the shift to fixed value points from Marriott means a transfer into the Avios/Nectar scheme looks like the best move, you give yourself the option of flight redemptions or hotels via nectar hotels @ 0.8p. I’m (probably) wrong but its time I cancelled a few cards and thats going to mean decisions similar to OP need to be made and I can’t see a better one.
I just cleared out 70k points to Amazon vouchers. I know many of you would clip me round the ear if you could for doing that but I had to make a speedy decision and at least I know they will get used this side of Christmas. Virgin crippled the reward seats so for now I am not adding to that stash of airmiles and I have more Avios than I can use up in the next 3years, and I rarely shop at Sainsburys/Argos so those made little sense too.
Sometimes it is just good to move them to works what is best for you, even if it is sub-optimal.
