British Airways extends Tel Aviv cancellations, allows EL AL rebooking

British Airways has, not unexpectedly, announced that announced that flights to Tel Aviv will remain suspended until 25th October. This is the last day of the summer timetable.

It is the latest in a series of pauses, with the existing suspension due to end on 31st July.

From 26th October onwards, the morning outbound flight has been cancelled. Only the evening outbound flight (with the enticing 3.20am arrival time in Tel Aviv) is bookable.

British Airways extends Tel Aviv cancellations

Virgin Atlantic has permanently cancelled its Tel Aviv route so this is not available as a rebooking option.

British Airways has, however, agreed a comprehensive deal with EL AL.

If you have a BA ticket to Tel Aviv for travel up to 25th October, or you are on a cancelled morning flight from 26th October, you can ask to switch to an EL AL service from Heathrow. This includes redemption tickets.

If this is not convenient or there is no availability on your chosen date, there is an alternative. You can be rebooked on British Airways to various cities in Europe and then switch to a connecting EL AL flight.

Options include Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Larnaca, Madrid, Milan and Paris.

The trade guidelines also imply that Lufthansa Group airlines are available as an option but that agents should push you to accept EL AL in the first instance.

You can, of course, also request a full refund if your British Airways flight has been cancelled.

Further details can be found on the BA trade website here.

I wonder who these 1am/2am/3am flights arrival benefit? Business folk? Last time I flew a 1:45am departure was with TUI or something (before pts) to Turkey. Not great.

    • Nico says:

Is it to fly the planes through the night to make some $? Very frequent when going toward that region.

    • Lumma says:

Israeli business people wanting to do a full day’s work on their last day in London?

    • Can says:

Plus insensitive locals who don’t care about 2-3am arrivals and plane noises

  • cin4 says:

    Hear, hear.

  • Paul says:

I imagine the number of people impacted is very small.

    • Alex says:

The opposite I suspect – so many people have family in both the UK and Israel and need to travel between them frequently. There’s a reason El Al availability is so limited.

      • yonasl says:

Plus all the connections to US. Plenty of flights also from IL to BCN or MAD to go to South America.

  • James says:

This is not an accurate description. The guidelines state that you need to have booked your ticket (currently at least) by 3 May 2025. If you have booked after, at this point in time, you still cannot change to Elal. However I would expect that to update soon.

  • SG says:

Has anyone had any luck switching to LY for morning flights after 26th October. I’ve called a couple of times and been told that they can only switch up to 25th October. Guidelines seems to say the same unless I’m missing something.
