Aer Lingus is launching its first flights to Mexico with a thrice-weekly service from Dublin to Cancún, starting in January 2026.

The new non-stop service will be operated by the airline’s A330-300 aircraft which we have previously reviewed here.

Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Aer Lingus launches flights to Cancún

Here are the flight times:

  • EI143 departs Dublin at 13:30 and arrives in Cancún at 19:20
  • EI142 departs Cancún at 21:05 and arrives in Dublin at 11:20 the following morning.

Even if the thought of high-rise resorts in Cancún don’t thrill you, Cancún is a gateway to the entire Yucatán Peninsula and its Mayan archaeological sites. Just two hours south of Cancún is Tulum where we’ve reviewed the excellent Conrad Riviera Maya Tulum and Papaya Playa Project Tulum.

Tickets will be available for Avios. This article looks at the new Aer Lingus redemption booking platform at aerlingus.com.

Aer Lingus still has a published reward chart unlike British Airways. You can download it here (PDF).

I suspect Cancún will be in the same band as Los Angeles, Miami etc and cost:

  • Economy (off peak): 16,250 Avios each way
  • Economy (peak): 25,000 Avios each way
  • Business (off peak): 62,500 Avios each way
  • Business (peak): 75,000 Avios each way

…. plus taxes and charges.

Allegris sounds like a drug for treating ADHD….

  • filipino_chino says:

Happy with the launch of flights to CUN – it gives me another option as i was planning on going to VS, but due to the kids timetable it’s nearly impossible to get a good deal.

  • mark2 says:

Having logged in to Aer Lingus, I cannot see Avios availability.
Do I need to transfer Avios first?

    • SamG says:

Aer Lingus do not have any guarenteed availability and are extremely stingy with seats especially in Business class, so I wouldn’t be too hopeful of securing any especially for a family!

  • jjoohhnn says:

They should work out how to convert that 1.5t weight into a fuel tank.

    • Nick says:

And then be unbalanced when the fuel is used up…

I mean, think about why it’s there 🙄

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

Now (from someone with less than zero knowledge of plane engineering) as to whether you could somehow engineer a cargo hold for dense cargo, and therefore only need to install removable weight within it when suitable cargo isn’t loaded?

        • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

Problem with that you’d need a stock of weights at all the airports these planes fly to just waiting to be.used and then fly another set out for future reuse which would then take up space that could otherwise be used for cargo.

  • Erico1875 says:

We have tickets for Skynyrd at Brighton. £160 for 2.
The support band Blackberry Smoke are really good too.
Depending on acquisition cost, mine is under 0.65p, 45K Avios seems pretty decent for the Accor package

  • blue_wolf says:

Lufthansa’s poor performance here is bad news for those of us who fly BA… competition breeds innovation, and if Lufthansa does poorly, there’s no incentive for BA to do any better.

    • Rob says:

Lufty has been terribly run for at least a decade unfortunately. This is the airline which ordered its A380 with sloping seats in business class.

      • RC says:

Whereas BA put an already outdated club world seat in its! And it’s still there.

  • Gerry says:

I’d just flag that Cancun, Tulum etc have been experiencing a massive sargassum (seaweed) issue in recent years – this year is particularly bad and it can ruin your vacation if you don’t know what to expect. There are Facebook groups that post current sargassum situation updates.
Security situation has also worsened – Tulum’s chief of police was shot dead in broad daylight in the middle of the city earlier this year.

I’ve been going to Tulum since 2008 (a tiny village back then!) and it’s changed for worse in every aspect. I’d still go for cenote diving but not beaches anymore!

  • Daniel says:

Looking at the Aer Lingus availability it seems that they are back to releasing no seats within the 60 days of departure. I had hoped that this had changed after the recent article on the point.
