Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Which 37 airlines can you earn Avios on?

Today I want to look at which airlines you can earn Avios from.

You know about British Airways, of course.  But there are actually 37 airlines which let you earn Avios for some or all of their flights.

With Garuda Indonesia becoming an Avios partner today (story to follow!) and Scottish carrier Loganair adopting Avios as its loyalty currency next week, I thought it was worth updating this article.

Which airlines can you earn Avios on?

The list will change again when Oman Air joins oneworld, which we expect to happen around June 2025. Until then, you can only earn Avios via Qatar Airways Privilege Club on the route between Doha and Muscat.

Scandinavian regional carrier Braathens has been removed from this list. The partnership with Finnair ended in December 2024.

Which airlines let you earn Avios?

The list below is alphabetical. In brackets, I have added the programmes which let you earn Avios from that airline:

  • BA for British Airways Club
  • IB for Club Iberia Plus
  • AC for AerClub
  • VC for Vueling Club
  • QR for Qatar Airways Privilege Club
  • AY for Finnair Plus
  • LO for Loganair

Note that in some cases only certain ticket types will earn. Heavily discounted Aer Lingus tickets do not earn Avios in British Airways Club, for example. You need to credit such flights to an Aer Lingus AerClub account and then transfer the Avios to your BA account.

Here we go:

Aer Lingus (AC, BA)

Air Nostrum / Iberia Regional (AY, IB, BA)

Airlink (QR)

Alaska Airlines (AY, BA, IB, QR)

American Airlines (AC, AY, BA, IB, QR)

  • dannyhk says:

What’s this about Garuda becoming an Avios partner today? I don’t see the promised story on the Website about this? Is it coming tomorrow instead.

      • Graeme says:

Depends if you are in Indonesia time zone or not! Very interesting news for those of us local and regular to CGK

        • LittleNick says:

Potentially very interesting, you could then in theory use avios to book Skyteam flights? I suspect that would be too good to be true

      • dannyhk says:

Very interesting development, especially for those of us living in Asia. Now just have to see what the redemption rates are like.

        • Rob says:

          Standard QR partner rates.

          • LittleNick says:

Thanks, sorry completely misunderstood, it’s a QR partner rather than adopting avios, got way too ahead of myself

      • Axel Heyst says:

It’s a good way of adding 25% more availability on the doha – cgk leg. Going from 3 to 4 flights per day.

Was never going to be a big announcement today as Jakarta is winding down for Idul Fitri next week

    • Stuart says:

Taking a wild leap in the dark here, but could QR pull GA out of SkyTeam and into oneWorld? I would hope not as I’m a SkyTeam flyer.

      • BBbetter says:

MH might not be happy about it. Typically alliances avoid adding airlines in adjacent hubs / markets, unless they are part of same ownership.

  • Yitz says:

As a real “oldie” from the Manchester Area what I really need to know is not where to earn my Avios points but whether I can spend them without using Heathrow ! After my recent flights to LCA, I realise changing at LHR is no longer for me. Maybe a list of qualifying airlines ?

  • ADS says:

do Binter flights really award Avios?

it’s also supposed to be possible to redeem Avios on Binter flights – but it doesn’t actually work in practice! I asked on FT, and not a single person has ever managed to do it. I even rang up IB phoneline, and they couldn’t do it!

  • Garry says:

What about EL AL to qantus

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

QF don’t use avios – and that’s what the article is about avios!

  • David S says:

Whilst Malaysian are an Avios partner, over many bookings with them, I have found it impossible to buy any flight within Asia with them in a class that earns you a single Avios. Historically, I’ve been selective about booking Business Class with them. Great to pick up 40 Tier points (pre 1st April) but you get one Avios per mile (or less) , so many flights literally earn you negligible avios. However, does anyone know if switching your VPN to an Asian location, would trigger anything better ?

  • Markus says:

Avios and Qatar Privilege are so useless. Always excuses from them to get my points. Flying blue is really the better option.

  • Si says:

You’ve written that Iberia Express flights earn in Aer Club – except they don’t.

You’ve also missed that American Airlines flights earn in Aer Club.

    • Rob says:

Sorry, missed that – I had Aer Club and Vueling Club under the same heading and forgot to adjust Iberia Express when I separated them.

  • Eric says:

According to Finnair’s website, their partnership with Junyao has ended with a deadline of 15 April.
