Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

How to earn Avios with NH Hotels and nhow – with a triple Avios offer running

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

This article looks at how to earn Avios points from stays at NH Hotels and nhow.

Whilst the British Airways and Iberia loyalty schemes share the same ‘currency’, the list of partners is not the same.

One area where there is inconsistency is with hotel partners.

How to earn Avios with NH Hotels and nhow

Following some tidying up in recent years, NH Hotels and local chain Paradores are the only groups which work with Iberia Plus but not British Airways Executive Club.

Full details of all Iberia hotel partners can be found here.

The NH Hotels website is here.

Earning Avios with NH Hotels

NH Hotels is one of those niche European hotel chains that is rarely seen in the UK but crops up quite frequently on the continent.

As well as the main NH Hotels brand, the group also includes NH Collection, Tivoli, Anantara, Avani and the funky nhow chain. nhow is the only part of the group which you can find in London.

The only NH property we have reviewed is NH Collection Antwerp Centre (click here for the review) which impressed Rhys in 2023.

The standard earning rate with NH Hotels and nhow is shown here at iberia.com.  You earn between 200 and 450 Avios per night depending on the quality of the hotel.

Note that, until 30th April 2025, there is a triple Avios offer running. You could earn up to 1,350 Avios per night.

To earn Avios at NH Hotels, you need to open an Iberia Plus account at iberia.com and give that number to the hotel.  British Airways Executive Club numbers are not accepted

Once the Avios arrive in your Iberia Plus account, you can transfer them to British Airways using the ‘Combine My Avios’ feature online.  Note that Iberia accounts must be 90 days old before you can use ‘Combine My Avios’. This HfP article explains in detail how ‘Combine My Avios’ works and how to work around any IT bugs.

You can find out more about NH Hotels on their website here.

PS. NH is also part of the GHA DISCOVERY loyalty scheme which may be more valuable than earning Avios. Our overview of GHA DISCOVERY is here.

  • Robert says:

Avios are awarded during check-out only to the Iberia Plus cardholder for Official and Corporate Rates (reduced, prepaid or promotional rates are excluded, as well as bookings made through online travel agencies).

  • x2000 traveller says:

NH have a good range of hotels in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, plus a few in Switzerland (and Spain, of course). They’re definitely worth a look for business travel in my experience, although their own loyalty programme is almost incomprehensible (although normally offers 5% off all bookings, bit like ALL).

  • John says:

Will a NH stay booked through GHA receive both GHA Discovery Dollars and Iberia Avios? If not, is the hotel selecting which programme to credit at check out?

    • Rob says:

I suspect it goes to GHA automatically and can’t be changed.

      • John says:

So the answer is yes, potentially, if you find can find a hotel that knows how to add an Iberia number?! See @Ellis below.

  • Ellis says:

I stayed in the NH Amsterdam Flowermarket last week and asked at checkin to register my Iberia Plus number against the booking. At check in (it was around 9pm) the receptionist had never heard of it. I tried again the next morning; again not heard of it – never even heard of Iberia plus. They called the manager and she said you had to call a number to register the stay against Iberia Plus. I called the number (Spanish number, though once through the automated options they did speak English) and they also said it wasn’t possible.
It could be because I book via my work travel agency, Navan, but unlike a normal online travel agent I can usually collect points by booking this way (Hilton Honors etc). So I’m unclear whether it comes down to poorly trained staff or the way mine was booked.

    • Alex says:

Same experience. A few stays with NH in France and Netherlands. Neither front desk, nor assistant manager had any idea what to do with that Iberia card.

  • Throwawayname says:

They’re also pretty strong in Latin America, Italy, and Portugal, and have some kind of presence semi-randomly dotted around the rest of Europe (e.g. Lyon Airport, Poznan, Copenhagen, Prague).

They’re consistently strong on value for money, especially if you happen to appreciate spacious rooms (whether decent-sized standard ones or junior suites etc available for a modest premium) and dislike the American 4-5 star chain approach with concierges, bellhops, thick green carpets (NH almost always use laminate flooring) etc.

    • Throwawayname says:

That was meant as a response to x2000 traveller’s comment!
