Premier Inn launches a rare hotel cashback offer with American Express

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

We are used to seeing the major hotel brands launch cashback offers for American Express cardholders, but it is something that Premier Inn has never got involved with.

Indeed, getting any sort of discount or kickback on a Premier Inn booking is virtually impossible. They don’t appear on reward portals and you usually can’t book them via online travel agents such as Hotels.com which offer rewards.

The launch of a cashback offer is therefore worth noting, even though it isn’t hugely generous.

Premier Inn American Express cashback

If you are targeted for this deal, you will receive £20 cashback when you spend £120 at Premier Inn by 9th February. Some people are seeing a lower offer of £15.

I suspect that payment is taken immediately so you could book for a date after 9th February but I am not certain. Book at your own risk!

The rules are stricter than usual for hotel cashback deals:

  • you must book online, not ‘pay at hotel’
  • you must spend £120 in one transaction, not cumulatively
  • all 800 UK Premier Inn hotels are taking part, but those outside the UK are excluded

Here’s a tip – you can usually pre-pay for breakfast and/or dinner whilst booking. This may help you get to the £120, given that few Premier Inn hotels cost that much out of season. Here’s an example:

We haven’t covered Premier Inn much on HfP, but I DO rate them. Their consistency and their focus on getting the basics right (good bed, good shower) is exceptional in an industry where the name above the door is rarely a good guide to what you are going to get.

We have reviewed Premier Inn Heathrow Terminal 4 – click here – which is walkable from the terminal via the walkway.

Remember that you need to be targeted for this offer and click ‘Save to card’ in the Amex app or on the website before booking.

I’ve got the £15 cb for 150 spend on my BAPP too. Also a Tesco £5 cb for £40 spend which I didn’t know was there!

  • Thegovier says:

Mine was the £15 back on £150 spend.

  • MKB says:

Unfortunately, Premier Inn are in the process of downgrading their rooms across the UK. The very useful long desk under the tv is being ripped out, and the only work desk is a circular table just over a metre in diameter, meaning it’s next to useless if you use a laptop with an external mouse as there’s nowhere to put the mouse and nowhere on the other side to put any paper documents you are working from.

  • ECR says:

I don’t think it is quite something that Premier Inn has never got involved with. I recall using an offer on my Amex Platinum once before many years ago in the very distant past. I can’t recall the exact details but think it was something like £10 off maybe a £30 or £50 spend. The only reason it sticks in my mind is that I didn’t end up staying and I thought well at least it hadn’t cost me the full amount. I expect the offer would have been mentioned on HfP at the time, probably in a “bits” news item.

I flagged this offer on comments when it appeared on my BAPP a couple of days ago!

Premier inn are doing away with their pubs that are linked to many of their sites, also adding more rooms where possible.

@Rob you can also pay for the meal deal option when you arrive at the property, It basically gives you a free drink.
Premier inn Bath road as others are, is definitely driven by demand, as prices can vary.

I am staying at the premier inn Bath road on an afternoon return to LHR in a couple of weeks, after almost a day of traveling, not driving home the same day, stay cost £50

Despite comments regarding price increases, I believe Whitbread still have a solid product across the uk, also in parts of Europe, and it’s good to see Rob endorse that, after there have been many comments from readers, referring to Premier inn over the years.

Stayed in Aviemore recently, and noticed the Premier inn there, we paid around 650 for 4 nights in a cabin that was located at rear of a large-ish B&B ( breakfast in the main house) Dosnt sound great how I’ve described it, but it was lovely. Dunno how much the prem would have been… my OH did the booking and said a lot of places were fully booked as we stayed over the NYE/ New year period.
