No1 Lounges is coming to Jersey next summer

Jersey Airport is getting a big increase in lounge space with the arrival of a brand new 148-seat No1 Lounge. It is scheduled to open in ‘late summer’ 2025.

Crucially, this is a new lounge space and not a takeover of the existing Executive Lounge, which will presumably continue to operate. It’s good news for private bankers!

It will be 17th lounge in the No1 / My Lounge / Clubrooms stable. The new Heathrow Terminal 2 lounge opened last week.

At 460 square meters (5,000 square feet) it can accommodate 148 guests which seems like a big increase for what is a relatively small airport. It is also significantly larger than the new No1 Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 2 which has just 90 seats.

It is confirmed that Priority Pass will be accepted, although that’s not a surprise given that Collinson, the company which owns Priority Pass, owns half of No1 Lounges.

Unlike the existing lounge (if we remember correctly) the new No1 Lounge will have windows:

“With panoramic views and natural decor inspired by the beauty of Jersey, the lounge provides travellers with a serene and inspiring pre-travel experience.”

One other issue with the existing lounge is that it is by Gate 2 in a ‘no return’ part of the airside area. Once you have headed to the lounge it is impossible to go back to the shopping and restaurant part, which is a problem if your flight ends up being delayed. It isn’t clear where this new lounge will be located.

Construction has not yet begun but is to start ‘imminently’, presumably in January.

The lounge is not yet available via the No1 Lounges website.

I assume it going to be located on the upper floor where the old Marks and Spencer was. It’s currently an airside space underutilised before the no return doors.

  • planeconcorde says:

According to Jersry Airport “Access to the upstairs ‘Atrium’ lounge has been restricted as work on the No1 Lounge begins, ahead of its opening next Summer.”

  • Ironside says:

It’s been ten years since last I visited JER, but the upstairs area was my first thought too. There are precious few other availables spaces, especially next to the gates.

  • Barrel for Scraping says:

The current JER lounge was the BA lounge for a long time and very oddly they had kept the BA branding long after ceasing to be an official BA lounge. This caused the weird situation at the start of COVID when BA cancelled all third party lounge contracts BA passengers couldn’t use the British Airways lounge without paying or using priority pass. Presumably this is what forced the lounge to remove the BA branding but there’s still clear indications it used to be a BA lounge.

It does have windows, not in the main bit but in a section that looks like it may have been a smoking section many years ago. It looks like based on the layout that direct boarding from the lounge was possible at one time but no longer seems to be used. Has anyone here boarded direct from the ex-BA JER lounge?

Maybe after the summer peak is over they can close the ex-BA lounge for a few months to refurbish that. Taking inspiration from Aspire in NCL the ex-BA space could be a mid tier lounge aimed at business class and airline status passengers (do any ‘full-service’ airlines apart from BA operate to JER?)

    • planeconcorde says:

When BA flights from JER used gate 3 then direct access from the executive lounge through to the gate 3 waiting area was available. Currently BA flights are more likely to operate from gate 2 or 10, so direct access isn’t available. They usually call the flight first in the lounge so passengers have the option to reach the gate prior to the general boarding announcement in the terminal. Lufthansa have summer only weekend flights to Germany and they utilise the same lounge.

      • Barrel for Scraping says:

Any idea why gate 3 is not used by BA anymore? Is it used by anyone?

        • planeconcorde says:

Gate 3 does get used at times, depending on the number of aircraft on the ground. I don’t know the official reason for BA preferring gates 2 and 10. However those gates do have a larger seating waiting area, which is split into two rooms. Boarding groups 0 to 3 are directed to the left room. Whereas higher group numbers are directed right. So they are better for holding the larger number of passengers on BA’s aircraft. Gate 2 and 3 are the preferred gates for international flights due to their location near the immigration area.

          • Barrel for Scraping says:

How do international (non-CTA) arrivals work in JER? Do they send you to a different door to enter the international arrivals flow? I’ve only ever arrived on BA which means following the immigration-less CTA route. But I never noticed where international arrivals parked at gate 2 would go.

          • Sam says:

Gate 3 unfortunately has too small a stand to accommodate airbus aircraft, so when the switch was made from 737s to 319s, this forced the change to the gates 2/10.

  • planeconcorde says:

International arrivals at gate 2 would enter the terminal building through a different door. Immigration desks are in a small corridor, along side where the gate 2 departure waiting area has a wall. Then rejoined the mixed arrival flow in the wider corridor prior to reaching the baggage belts. Gate 3 international arrivals would enter the terminal building through the same gate 2 international arrivals door.

  • Alex says:

The upstairs space is great and I’ve thought for a long time it would be an ideal lounge.

Free upstairs viewing deck at Jersey Airport being replaced with “premium” lounge
News, Top Stories | Published: 44 mins ago | Last Updated: 37 mins ago | By Newsdesk

The premium lounge. Picture: Ports of Jersey.
PASSENGERS should prepare to wave goodbye to their free view of the runway at Jersey Airport as Ports of Jersey are replacing the viewing deck with a “premium” paid-for lounge.

The upstairs atrium is somewhat of a hidden gem for travellers who want to escape the busy terminal to a quieter space.

But Ports this week announced plans to create a premium catered lounge next year, and following queries from the JEP the organisation confirmed it would be replacing the free space.

  • Sam says:

Unfortunately, as we on the ground understand it, the plan is only to maintain one lounge, and that when the contract to run the new upstairs lounge starts, that will be it for both the old lounge and the local company that runs it (who also used to run the check in until BA gave that to Swissport to save money).
