It’s the 10-year itch …. the Singapore Airlines and Aer Lingus lounges in Heathrow Terminal 2 underwent refurbishment earlier this year, and the Air Canada and Lufthansa lounges subsequently closed for a refit.

I think we’ll be waiting until the New Year to see the results of the Lufthansa building work, but the Air Canada lounge has now re-opened.

We haven’t seen the results yet but three photographs have been released.

There are three Star Alliance business class lounges in the Heathrow Terminal 2B satellite – Air Canada, United and Singapore Airlines – so the closure was not hugely disruptive.

All we know about the work is that:

We’ve created a new space for the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge with a Canadian lighting brand for an even more inviting feel, featuring art installations from Canadian artist Nicolas Ruel, whose impressive large-scale photography now features prominently throughout the space. Furniture upgrades, extra seats (now 149 seats) and upgraded lighting also bring a new level of care and class to the overall lounge experience.

There is also lounge news from Frankfurt. The Air Canada lounge there was due to re-open yesterday. Guests can expect all-new furnishings, improved lighting, 15 additional seats (now 145 in total) and a new business centre with communal tables and privacy pods.

Any intel on the re-opening date for Lufthansa lounge?

  • The Original David says:

That final photo looks like the room where they used to have a workspace with computers and a printer. Hope that’s been relocated rather removed completely, printers are hard to find in lounges these days!

    • Captain Haddock says:

Genuine question – what do you need to print at an airport? I print very little these days and the chance of a printing need arising whilst being at an airport seems unbelievably low.

      • Chris W says:

Visa documents for your destination, tickets, a presentation you are giving for work.

        Plenty of reasons.

We went there for breakfast two days ago, where they said they had been open for two days. Looked really sharp and the food options were impressive. We got maple-leafed shaped waffles (with maple syrup) and a small bundle of berries. They had ‘croffles’ that were croissant-waffles that we were too risk-averse to try.
On the disruption, with the Lufthansa lounge closed, those with non immediate departures would make it out to the 2B satellite, and given the higher quality of the Singapore lounge, throughout October and November I was turned away saying it was only for first class and business class passengers, and that as a Star Alliance gold I could only use the United lounge. As a result, United was quite full each time I was there. This was a game changer in increasing capacity; there were only 5 of us or so at the Air Canada lounge at 7-8am, half of which were on a Swiss Air flight.
