The O2: Virgin and Marriott release new VIP tickets – 63 concerts now bookable!

Last summer, Virgin Red signed a deal on a box at The O2 arena in London with tickets available for members of Virgin Red and Virgin Flying Club.

Marriott Bonvoy, of course, has been doing this for years – almost a decade if you include the box when it was run as part of Starwood Preferred Guest.

What is currently bookable?

Marriott Bonvoy O2 suite

The picture above is of the Marriott Bonvoy VIP suite, and a picture of the Virgin Red Room is further down.

In terms of what you get, the only difference is in food and drink. Marriott Bonvoy offers a free hot buffet and free drinks all night. Virgin Red offers no food and only two free drinks per person, although a cash food menu and cash bar is available.

Which deal is best value?

We value a Virgin Point at 1p and a Marriott Bonvoy point at 0.5p. In reality, few of you are likely to have an unlimited stash of both currencies so it’s a moot point.

Events are generally ‘cheaper’ – using HfP valuations – with Marriott Bonvoy, and that’s before you factor in unlimited free drinks and the buffet.

However, I am more protective of my Bonvoy points than I am of my Virgin Points. It is very likely I would redeem via Virgin Red irrespective of any valuation gap, even if I do have to buy my third drink and go hungry!

It is also important to note that Virgin Red releases seats far earlier than Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy has virtually nothing currently available to book. Virgin Red is letting you book for virtually everything in 2025.

In terms of booking via Virgin Red, please note the following:

  • you can buy tickets as a gift for someone else, but you will need to provide guest names to Virgin Red before the event and ID will need to be shown to team in the suite
  • children may attend (unless the event itself is age restricted) but at least one person in your group must be over 18
  • there is no way of seeing online how many pairs of tickets are left – if you want to book two or more pairs, you should email membersupport [at] virgin.com to check availability and then book immediately when you receive a response (Marriott Bonvoy DOES show online how many pairs are remaining)

Don’t forget Privilege Club Collection

For the ultimate experience at The O2, you will want to redeem Avios via Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

Qatar Airways is the core sponsor of The NinetyThird, the VIP club at The O2 (membership is £18,000 per year, image of The Walkway above) and auctions two tickets for almost all shows.

Importantly, each pair of tickets comes with a £400 tab to spend in the fine dining restaurant and the many bars in The NinetyThird.

With only one pair of tickets per show and the auction only closing four weeks in advance, you are taking a gamble if you hold off redeeming for the Virgin Red or Marriott Bonvoy suites when those tickets appear.

You can learn more about Privilege Club Collection here.

  • Paul says:

    Are the virgin receptions refundable?

If a Qatar option comes up.

  • Can says:

Babymetal playing O2 surprised me. They previously played at Roundhouse in Camden.

    • Mr. AC says:

Grabbed BABYMETAL. Hoping for this kind of energy https://youtu.be/zTEYUFgLveY
      Thinking about Sabaton as well…

Cheers Rob! Not a bad way to use up my Virgin points. Unlikely to use them for Virgin flights after the devaluation.

      • can2 says:

        Good for you!
I am sure BABYMETAL will deliver the energy — that’s their thing

  • Chris W says:

I’m amazed some of these acts can sell out the 02.

    Offspring?

    Harlem Globetrotters?!?

  • JPK says:

Steer clear of Qatar. I transferred in 70k Avios ready to go for an O2 event. They froze my account for ‘suspicious activity’ and I still haven’t got it sorted. Customer services worse than rubbish.

  • Neil says:

Anyone been to Disney on ice? What did you think and would you recommend?

    • Nick says:

If you have someone to take who loves skating and Disney then yes it’s great and they’ll enjoy it, but I wouldn’t go just as a generic show or something to do. Also not sure about the O2 for it, I went when they played much smaller venues and you could see a lot more.

      • Neil says:

Cool, thanks. Took my daughter to see the Lion King in the West End and she loved it. Wonder if this won’t quite live up to the same standards. Looking at the photos I guess the suites are quite far away from the stage.

        • babyg says:

Suites too far away from the action for kids + Disney on ice IMHO

          • Rob says:

            Tend to agree with this.

However, having seen The Killers from the moshpit floor this summer on a cash ticket, the idea that it is somehow ‘better’ down there for a major gig is nonsense. Remember that I’m 6’2′ but your sight lines are still blocked by others and the sound quality on the floor isn’t ideal. If you are, say, first 20 rows of standing then it may be different in terms of atmosphere but if you’re towards the back (we were level with the control booth) you’ll probably end up thinking a comfy suite would have been better overall.

    • CJD says:

To echo Neil’s comments I’m not sure it works in an arena like the O2. I took my daughter maybe 10 years ago for her birthday at Braehead Arena in Glasgow, which is quite small, I’m not sure I’d have wanted to be in a bigger venue.

I can recommend Strictly if anyone in the family is a fan, the live show is brilliant.

  • Kwab says:

Persuaded my wife to get two tickets for Jamiroquai. Will they check that it is actually her attending rather than me and a friend?

    • Rob says:

The T&C say Yes and the email you are about to get will tell you that there’s no way you’re getting in if you’re not the named account holder.

In reality this is not the case. You can get into the O2 with no ID check so all that can happen is that the person managing the box that night (who is not a Virgin Red employee) would have to call security and have you thrown out when you arrive in the suite. I don’t see this happening.

  • Dave R says:

Does anyone know if there is a minimum age limit in the Virgin Red room? I would like to book a concert for my daughter but she will be 17.

    • memesweeper says:

You + guest must have photo ID and be over 18 according to the T&Cs in the app. But your daughter, like all 17 year olds, will have fake ID, so just tell her not to forget to bring it with her.

      • Rob says:

You only need ID ‘for events which require it’, which I suspect is very few.

    • Rob says:

No – I mean, they are selling Disney On Ice tickets …..

Alcohol is served to you, not self pour, so no issue with licensing.

However a) you can’t transfer the tickets and b) no under 18s can have a Virgin Red account, so by default 2 x under 18s cannot attend.

I went with my daughter to Katy Perry in the Marriott box when she was, I guess, 12-13.

  • Rui N. says:

Is there any way to book for more than 2 people on Virgin?
