IHG launches ‘IHG Destined’ with extra benefits at 180 of its upscale hotels

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

IHG, like all of the major hotel groups, runs exclusive programmes for luxury travel agents to encourage them to book for their clients.

Compared to the likes of Hyatt Prive (click to read more), the IHG option was messy. Properties were split between two different schemes with no real logic as to which was where.

The company has now ripped everything up and started again with ‘IHG Destined’.

As usual, our booking partner Emyr Thomas (contact him here) can book these packages for you.

IHG launches 'IHG Destined'

What is IHG Destined?

IHG Destined is a special benefits plan which can only be accessed by invite-only luxury travel agents.

It launches on 6th January 2025, so you cannot book under these terms for stays in 2024. Similar benefits are available under the two existing ‘preferred partner’ schemes, but IHG Destined will offer improved benefits at many hotels. One downside is the removal of the 2pm guaranteed check-out at some properties.

Which hotels are included?

It covers selected Six Senses, Regent, InterContinental, Vignette, Kimpton and Hotel Indigo properties.

You can download a PDF with the full list here.

What benefits do you get with IHG Destined?

All bookings will receive the following:

  • $100 hotel credit per stay (not valid against room rate)
  • full breakfast for two guests
  • room upgrade, subject to availability
  • welcome amenity
  • early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability
IHG launches 'IHG Destined'

Is there a minimum stay requirement?

Some cheaper properties may have a minimum stay requirement, potentially two nights, but there is no list yet. Many will give the benefits on a one-night stay.

What rate do you pay?

You pay the equivalent of the Best Flexible Rate showing on ihg.com. This means that you will be paying more than you would if you were happy to book a non-refundable rate, but even then the benefits should more than make up the difference.

Do you receive IHG One Rewards points and night credit?

Yes.

Can these benefits be applied to a reward stay?

No.

How do you book?

You need to contact our luxury hotel booking partner, Emyr Thomas, by filling in the form on this page of HfP.

Emyr will come back to you to confirm the rate (which should match Best Flexible Rate), the extra benefits and any minimum stay requirement.

The cancellation rules should match those for a Best Flexible Rate booking.

You don’t pay Emyr. You pay at check-out as usual, which also means that you will still trigger any American Express / IHG cashback offers which may be running. He will need to take a card number for guarantee purposes.

Unlike some luxury travel advisors, Emyr charges NO booking fees and NO amendment fees. You only pay the hotel.

You can download the PDF list of participating hotels here.

Interesting. Will Ambassadors get double upgrade?

    • LittleNick says:

Depends on the IC. Some will pretend you have a double upgrade by counting an improved room with a view as one upgrade, then the improved room type as your 2nd upgrade. Others don’t. The Le Grand is generally one of the better ones, one for diamond, one for ambassador and one if booked via Virtuoso/Lux rate. Last stay at the Le Grand there was a mess up and I ended up in an occupied room! Was dealt with and then upgraded into some sort of suite from a cosy room booking! Being a diamond ambassador and booking via Emyr on virtuoso helped with this of course

      • krys_k says:

Recently stayed at Marriott group hotel…Tribune portfolio…booked via Amex FHC which included room upgrade and as Titanium also have room upgrade. Lots of whispers between staff and inputting into computer an I’m pretty sure that I only got a single level upgrade.

        • LittleNick says:

In your case I would go to said room to review it, don’t touch anything and if not happy would go back to reception saying the room isn’t adequate and you have not had your upgrades and would like another room, request manager if initial staff member refusing to play ball

          • Karl says:

Yeah, who can be bothered doing that? There are many people paying more than you, and are far less hassle.
Calling Managers down to achieve a marginally better upgrade, will just make you look like a clown.

        • LittleNick says:

If you’re on a multi-night stay you have more leverage as you can theoretically cancel the subsequent nights which they would not generally want

  • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

    Some interesting omissions

San Francisco – neither of the ICs are included and nor are the Kimptons

New York – The Times Square IC and none of the Kimptoms are included

Chicago – the sole Kimpton isn’t included but the IC is

    Canada – nothing at all

  • Gordon says:

The benefits are basically the same as Hyatt Prive, but some properties with prive, only have a $50 property credit,

I don’t normally stay at an IHG property, although I have been a signed up member for some years, but if the price is right, it may be an option now.

  • Harry T says:

    This looks reasonable.

  • Gerry says:

    Interesting Tashkent is in Europe…

    • Greenpen says:

There is a bridge in Atyrau where you can stand with one foot in Asia and the other in Europe. It’s to do with the Urals marking the boundary. This allows Kazakhstan to play in European Football competitions. However, Uzbekistan and Tashkent are well to the east of the no doubt difficult to determine Urals line so it looks like an Asia city to me. Feels a bit Eastern European though …….

      • Mr. AC says:

Yeah, geographically no doubt it’s Asia. But if you’re dropped into a random point and there are no people around you’ll have trouble figuring out if you’re in Romania, Bulgaria, or Uzbekistan.

  • Mike says:

    Some observations.
No mention of access to the Club lounge which is a current benefit at some ICs -that is quite a loss eg at IC Park Lane
    Some oddities on the list:-
-IC London O2 not there but lesser regional KImptons are.
    – Adelaide -the Indigo is listed but not the IC

    • TGLoyalty says:

O2 doesn’t take part in the current version.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Also Virtuoso have lounge access rather than IHGs own programme so hopefully there’s no change there

    • Paul W says:

Agreed re lounge access. If IHG Destined is to have any real benefit/be a worthwhile improvement when compared to existing arrangements, however messy, surely lounge access has to be a feature at the vast majority of high end hotels?!
As an IHG Ambassador I appreciate I have to make the weekend certificate reservation, but it would be good if some sort of facility could created whereby days added via a luxury travel agent ensured one (upgraded) room was guaranteed for the entire trip.

  • Gordon says:

Funnily enough, I’ve just received an email from IHG, re their Cyber sale!

Today’s the day! Book using your IHG One Rewards app and, for the next two days, you’ll get early access to savings.

Book by 3 December, 2024, to save 25% on stays from 21 November, 2024, to 30 April, 2025.

    • John says:

Flexible rates I’ve been checking mysteriously increased by around 33% from yesterday to give the supposed “25% discount”, which is on prepaid rates only

      • Gordon says:

Fair enough, I’ve not looked into it yet!

      • TGLoyalty says:

If you have proof it’s not just isolated to a single hotel submitting a complaint to the ASA

        • Jon C says:

I also noted this on a trip to Cancun ive been keeping an eye on! with the supposed 25% sale there was only actually $10 difference on a $300 stay! Sadly no screenshots to prove but ive took some ready for the 40% Iberostar sale which starts tomorrow 20th Nov

  • aseftel says:

The late check out is no longer guaranteed? This is a step backwards.
