IHG One Rewards dropping its affiliation with two Las Vegas hotels

IHG, through its InterContinental brand, had a loose partnership with The Venetian and The Palazzo hotels in Las Vegas.

Both hotels were known as ‘InterContinental Alliance Resorts’ but did not use InterContinental in their names. Status benefits and other perks did not align with what you would receive at mainstream InterContinental properties.

Basically, it was a way for IHG to get exposure to the Las Vegas market and for the Las Vegas hotels to get exposure to IHG One Rewards members.

IHG has announced that both partnerships will end on 1st January 2025.

This is bad news for IHG, which sees it lose 0.7% of its global room count and its entire presence on the Las Vegas strip. Financially it will make minimal difference due to a unique fee structure – the hotels paid IHG less than $1m per year despite having over 7,000 combined rooms.

The big hotel groups have had mixed success with co-branding properties in Las Vegas. You had oddities like Radisson partnering with Treasure Island and Hilton signing up Virgin Hotels Las Vegas – itself rebranded from the failed Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas – as part of its Curio Collection.

The switch of the MGM properties from Hyatt to Marriott appears to be going well, however, with Marriott recently announcing plans to rebrand MGM’s Delano hotel in Las Vegas as a W.

The three remaining ‘InterContinental Alliance Resorts’ – The Palazzo Macao, The Venetian Macao and The Londoner Macao – are not impacted by this announcement.

  • Clark Zhang says:

The 3 Intercontinental Alliance properties in Macau haven’t been bookable via the IHG channel for some time. So although they might not be impacted by this announcement, it seems possible that they will be impacted by a future one.

  • Polly says:

We did one of these stays before the 1k minimum spend in Ragusa, Sicily. We struck lucky with the apartment, own terrace etc, in the centre of town. But, you do have to study the description and reviews, as some of the places under HVMB are not quite up to scratch.
Looking currently at a villa for our next Bali trip.

  • Ed says:

I’ve tried to book through Homes and Villas a couple of times but when it comes to payment it tells me I’m not recognised by the bank, which is a bit strange as my Marriott Amex works for anywhere else. Amex say they can’t see a payment attempt and Marriott help centre via e-mail couldn’t help either (only call number is in the US).

  • BJ says:

IHG: email just received – 3000 bonus for app booking and stay within 30 days.

    • RussellH says:

      Got this yesterday and registered.
But why do they do these special offers for one specific digital channel?
Surely it makes no difference to the cost of processing the booking, whether it is done on Windows, Linux, MacOS or Android?
I remember IHG doing this 8 years ago or so and it was incredibly frustrating as when using an iPad there was no indication at the confirmation stage of what you were actually booking, unlike using a computer.
Is the interface any better now?

      • TGLoyalty says:

Because they want people actively using their app and a way to encourage them to keep it on their phone for their next hotel search

      • BJ says:

Btw, had you already registered for 3k every 2 nights? I’ve had a theory that if you don’t register for offers they sometimes send you more.

      • Lady London says:

And so they can hoover up the data by tracking you and your clicks better

        • Lady London says:

Annoyingly, too many only-targeted-individuals-receive offers from IHG too these days

          • BJ says:

OT @LL, if you still like to read a lot 99p/month for 3 months might persuade you to try audible if you have not already done so. I’ve read the entire Rebus series this year and loved them.

          • BJ says:

@LL, with audible you keep everything you have already purchased with credits, coupons or cash. The important thing to remember is to use all unused credits before cancelling otherwise you lose those. When cancelling specify it is because it is too expensive and they will lijely offer you a free credit or £10 coupon, you can use these then cancel regardless. The current offer is second best I have ever seen, sometimes you get 3 months for 99p total.

        • RussellH says:

“Tracking” as in following me around or just having a better idea of what I am doing on their website?
If they want to know why I have not had a paid stay in at least thast 15 months they would find out more if they asked the question by e-mail, always provided, of course that they offered me a large number of points for a reply!

          • TGLoyalty says:

Tracking your activity between apps. So know you’ve got a booking via your airline and then push you adverts for holidays in that location.

you can allow or not allow tracking on Apple phones since ios18 atleast anyway

          • Lady London says:

Yes BJ I noted your advice a while back, hoping to see at least a 3 month Audible offee that I can use while I do other things inside.

I can’t remember though is it Audible or Music that lets you keep what you downloaded in trial if you decide not to continue? ISTR 1 of those does, the other doesn’t?

          • BJ says:

@LL, sorry reply is above, I list the thread.

Looking at 4 nights at Bellagio next Sept, Amex Hotel Collection seems best value ATM any tips for best deals?

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

Vegas rates can bounce up and down wildly depending on events, conferences, and much else.. Booking on a refundable rate and monitoring to rebook as necessary is the way to go for long future dates (done easiest direct with property). Signing up to the relevant casino loyalty schemes can lead to offers getting sent out even before you have stayed, as if you look like you even might gamble you become a MUCH more attractive customer. As far as return visits go, even gambling the most trivial amount and getting that recorded on the loyalty scheme moves you crucially from the non-gambler to gambler segment on the scheme, and means hotels will take a punt on future offers, as you may come back and gamble more.

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

To give one concrete example, the NFL schedule for the (Sep-Dec) season is released in the prior April. If your dates MIGHT be an NFL home game for Vegas but turn out not to be, those dates will likely drop noticeably. Some people even speculatively book every weekend in Sep-Dec and then cancel all the non NFL ones once dates are released…

      • Stuart says:

Yes. I’ve had 21 comped days (14 Aria / 7 Cosmo) this year and have maybe gambled 2,000usd. Seems they really favour foreign accounts too.

        • The Savage Squirrel says:

At all points of the price spectrum too. Admittedly a downtown property, but I once chucked $20 in a video poker machine and cashed out $18 a whole 5 minutes later while Mrs S was using the toilets there (think I was only a loyalty member because you got discount on the ice cream stall or something). Got an offer for two free nights.

          • yorkshireRich says:

I once lost 20 usd in the Wynn after marvelling at the fountains. I checked and retraced my steps all over the hall.
That’s the only money in the last 20 years that’s fallen out of my pocket I believe.

      • C says:

I’m a member of Caesars Rewards with some modest spend through this loyalty scheme over two x Vegas trips this year.

Caesars Rewards members have access to “special” hotel offers and rates.
I came across availability at Planet Hollywood for $11 a night next August. I booked three nights which all in (taxes, resort fees etc) totalled $208 for three nights, very happy with that 🙂

    • Ols says:

Not quite on topic but I booked 4 nights non-refundable at the Bellagio in January through BA hotels. I’m Amex platinum so would I still get the perks such as free breakfast?

    • HertsSam says:

I looked at the Bellagio for October 2025 and noted (at the time of writing), 11th October was showing as a Friday. I believe the 11th is a Saturday as I am going to a comedy performance that day.
Just saying, check the booking date and day of the week.

  • Colin_MacKinnon says:

Have three nights in Macau in December in one of the IC Resorts.

As IHG Diamond Elite IC Ambassador, any idea what – if any – benefits to expect?

  • daveinitalia says:

Is the biggest chain brand on the strip now Hilton, with the Resorts World building containing a Hilton, Conrad and an LXR hotel called Crockfords? I’m talking visible because you’d never know by looking at them that the Venetian was affiliated to IHG or the MGM hotels having a tie in with Marriott. Tropicana used to be a DoubleTree but that’s now rubble

    • TGLoyalty says:

Depends if you count a soft brand like LXR then you’d include Autograph and luxury collection.

Cosmo was has been a Marriott Autograph collection hotel for years with over 3000 rooms

Belaggio is luxury collection and Aria also autograph rest are still MGM hotels.

      • daveinitalia says:

I was mainly counting the Hilton and the Conrad whose brands are also prominently displayed on the Resorts World building just mentioned the LHR in the same building for completeness.

  • John says:

The only benefits I received from the Venetian as Diamond Ambassador were
    1. a shorter checkin line
    2. an upsell to a club room for a fixed price which they wouldn’t discount.

    So, all in all, nothing.

    • BlairWaldorfSalad says:

Venetian and Palazzo always honoured Ambassador 4pm check out. Which in Vegas in summer with an evening flight can be a game changer
