IHG One Rewards dropping its affiliation with two Las Vegas hotels

IHG, through its InterContinental brand, had a loose partnership with The Venetian and The Palazzo hotels in Las Vegas.
Both hotels were known as ‘InterContinental Alliance Resorts’ but did not use InterContinental in their names. Status benefits and other perks did not align with what you would receive at mainstream InterContinental properties.
Basically, it was a way for IHG to get exposure to the Las Vegas market and for the Las Vegas hotels to get exposure to IHG One Rewards members.

IHG has announced that both partnerships will end on 1st January 2025.
This is bad news for IHG, which sees it lose 0.7% of its global room count and its entire presence on the Las Vegas strip. Financially it will make minimal difference due to a unique fee structure – the hotels paid IHG less than $1m per year despite having over 7,000 combined rooms.
The big hotel groups have had mixed success with co-branding properties in Las Vegas. You had oddities like Radisson partnering with Treasure Island and Hilton signing up Virgin Hotels Las Vegas – itself rebranded from the failed Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas – as part of its Curio Collection.
The switch of the MGM properties from Hyatt to Marriott appears to be going well, however, with Marriott recently announcing plans to rebrand MGM’s Delano hotel in Las Vegas as a W.
The three remaining ‘InterContinental Alliance Resorts’ – The Palazzo Macao, The Venetian Macao and The Londoner Macao – are not impacted by this announcement.
