Accor’s TRIBE hotel opens at Manchester Airport

After some delays, Accor has partially opened its TRIBE hotel at Manchester Airport.

I think, although I am sure regulars can confirm in the comments, that this will be the nearest hotel to the airport railway station although you will need to cross a road to get to it.

I have never stayed at a TRIBE (this is only the second UK site after Canary Wharf) but it has a citizenM / Moxy feel to it.

Tribe Manchester Airport hotel

Standard rooms are small at 17 sq m although there are larger ‘Extra’ rooms at 27 sq m. Some standard rooms only have atrium views.

The size of the building disguises the number of rooms. There will be a whopping 412 of them when the hotel is fully open, although for now only the lower floors are operating. This should mean that the restaurant and bar are not too busy.

We are likely to be up in Manchester soon to try aether, the private terminal, which (re)opens on 4th November so we will try to tie in a TRIBE stay.

You can find out more about TRIBE Manchester Airport, and book, here.

I’m looking forward to the Manchester HfP ‘early Christmas party’ at Tribe.

  • Gary says:

The Hertz President’s Circle link in the app (or the website) doesn’t work for me. I have diamond IHG.. the tile in rewards wallet for Herts PC says “redeemed”, but my Hertz status is still showing as Five Star, the middle tier. Website link just goes to a hertz banner, but no text. Not particularly bothered as I’ve never experienced Hertz recognising status!

    • Nick says:

I have exactly the same issue as you Gary, just get the banner, via the app (It doesn’t show on my website reward wallet at all for me), so will try later, or email Hertz.

I’m pretty sure that, when you get it, you can also status match to the top level with most, if not all, of the other major rental cos. too.

    • Scottpat78 says:

I’m the same – I redeemed it in the IHG app a while back and Hertz still says 5 star.

    • qc says:

      Exactly the same here!

      Who should we contact?

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

“I think, although I am sure regulars can confirm in the comments, that this will be the nearest hotel to the airport railway station“

Nope. Radisson will still be that (well, if you measure from the nearest bit of the building 🤣); and in practical terms will still be significantly closer as it’s on the station’s walkway to T2, while fencing and lack of footpaths will make TRIBE a short but actually quite awkward walk.

    • Rob says:

Yes, I wasn’t sure about fencing. When I stayed at the new HI at MAN I ended up going through a hole in a fence and walking down a steep slope to cut off a few minutes!

  • BJ says:

I think my Ibis Tokyo Ginza room was even bigger than those Tribe rooms. Btw, for anybody looking for a budget room in a good Tokyo location this works but stay room only as the breakfast option in the associated Thai restaurant doesn’t work well IMO. I boojed this hotel for under £50/night just after Japan re-opebed, I ‘m nit sure what rartes are now.

    • kevinchoi says:

Is it big enough to have multiple large suitcases? I’ve booked it for early May next year, and it’s around 120k japanese yen for 6 nights, so around £90 per night with the ALL Plus Ibis discount. I think price-wise it’s still great considering it’s around the end of Golden Week and most other hotels are charging extortionate amounts

      • BJ says:

From memory rooms started at 14 but we opten for a twin despite travelling as a couple beczuse twins were 19 or 22 I think. We had 2 55cm cabin bags and 2 backpacks. I don’t recall any beed to move them around. If you are room onky there is a FamilyMart opposite with ok machine drinks, quite a loy of pastries etc which may put you by until a proper Japanese lunch if you don’t want to do breakfast at tbe Thai restaurant. If you’re in a smaller doubke you might want to try emailing to see if you can swap for a latger twin. I found them very responsive and helpful via email.

        • David says:

Can you try and sort your typing out, please. It’s now always riddled with errors and is getting worse and worse 🙃

        • meta says:

It’s £60 for my dates in December. Twin rooms are 19sqm. It’s a cheap option, but I can’t do less than 23sqm as I always have a large suitcase for Japan because bringing a lot of stuff back.

  • Adrian says:

Hertz is my normal rental company and they are indeed a mixed bag. AmEx Plat gets you Five Star not President’s Circle. My status dropped last year (despite spending enough to re-qualify for diamond, Hertz would not put me back to President’s Circle, even with me sending them all the reservation details and the cost of each one, but did put me to Five Star for the Plat card). I noticed 2-3 weeks ago my status had changed from Five Star to President’s Circle, so for me the change had been done without requesting it and this status is mentioned as a benefit in the October IHG statement.

    • Adrian says:

Does anyone know when this expires though, is this just valid until end December as i can’t see that detail anywhere?

    • sloth says:

much better to get Avis President if you have Amex Plat. Avis P far superior to Hertz P imo

  • TimM says:

Aether appears very poor value but for its juxtaposition with the rest of the ‘Manchester Airport experience’. Just as premium economy is as economy used to be, the Aether terminal is as Manchester airport used to be.

One should not have to pay through the nose not to be dehumanised by Manchester Airport.

    • Rob says:

Not sure the Manchester ever gave a 3-course meal from a high profile chef to all departing passengers ….

      • TimM says:

Rob, I think you are too easily taken in. You should return to the North to be re-educated.

    • daveinitalia says:

It’s obviously better than a typical airport experience but the thing that makes it more tempting at MAN is because how terrible the regular airport experience is. It’s like going from one extreme to another. So I’d be more interested in the MAN offering because the regular offering was so bad, but if NCL offered something similar it would be less compelling (as security and boarding there tend to be fine and the lounge has massively improved this year).

      • AL says:

The problem with Aether is that it’s basically MAG admitting that MAN is crap. The true fix is to fix MAN, but given their strategy is “high volume, low cost”, why do that? The 19-whatever lounge isn’t great. I really want to see my VS Gold honoured at Aether, which would make MAN’s experience much more akin to that at LHR.

        • CJD says:

Surely Aether is for footballers from Liverpool and the 2 Manchester clubs?

          • Rob says:

Last time I checked there were plenty of people around Manchester who could spare £150 ….

        • Stu287 says:

I agree that MAN is pretty terrible if using t1 or especially t3 but… for the past 2 years I have flown almost weekly out of MAN T2 on AFKLM and I really don’t understand why people complain about it so much. I actually changed alliances from BA to AF for this reason alone having previously been gold for several years. Ok, there is no first wing or fancy shops to peruse post security but there is a lounge that always has seats available and never more than a 10 minute walk to the gate. I am even confident enough these days not to arrive until 1hr to 1hr 15 before departure time. The one thing I really miss from BA is the free seat next to me in case the flight wasn’t full, if BA ever move terminals then I’d be tempted to go back

  • Geoff says:

I stay in a Tribe about once a month in Paris and they are perfectly fine. Comfortable and reasonably well appointed, upper-budget I guess. The only problem is that the lighting is so moody it is basically impossible to do work in the rooms if that is what you are planning.

    • meta says:

For Clichy property, book the terrace room and you’ll have plenty of natural light as the windows are almost floor to ceiling.

  • brucebruce says:

When you visit Aether can you ask about the express option and what happens more than 75 minutes early? I’m assuming you are just asked to wait.

The 15 minute window for this option I’m finding very off putting.

    • daveinitalia says:

I thought the same. The express option should really allow you to turn up 30 minutes before (if you’re hand baggage only) and still make the flight like you could do at LCY back when I used to use it (is that still possible?)

As written down the express option doesn’t sound that attractive to me. The 15 minute window and not being able to use the lounge (perhaps there’s at least an express waiting room with tea, coffee, water and snacks) make this unattractive but perhaps the reality might be better than the description.

If I have the misfortune to fly from MAN in the future I think it’s worth paying the extra for the full service so you can totally relax and not worry about arriving in the 15 minute window.
