Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Use Avios for VIP Champions League packages via Qatar Airways Privilege Club

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you’ve been following Head for Points throughout 2024, you’ll know that there is an exciting new way to spend Avios.

You can now use your Avios to get VIP tickets for concerts at The O2 in London, rugby matches, European football matches and much more.

This is not a British Airways Executive Club promotion. It is being organised by Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and is called ‘Privilege Club Collection’.

A good selection of UEFA Champions League packages are now available for bidding.

Privilege Club Collection

The Privilege Club Collection website is here.

How will the Champions League packages work?

The current packages cover games on 22nd and 23rd October.

The UK games are getting expensive BUT there are some amazing opportunities for anyone who wants to get a flight into Europe.

These packages include:

  • Qatar Airways “Warm-Up Experience” for two to watch the teams’ warm up session from pitch side
  • Two Cat 1 match tickets
  • Lounge access for UEFA official hospitality for two with food and beverages included

Here are your options together with the current highest bid as at noon yesterday:

  • AC Milan vs Club Brugge KV, 22nd October, 210 Avios
  • Arsenal FC vs FC Shakhtar Donetsk, 22nd October, 36,000 Avios
  • AS Monaco vs FK Crvena Zvezda, 22nd October, 31 Avios
  • Aston Villa FC vs Bologna FC 1909, 22nd October, 21,000 Avios
  • Atalanta BC vs Celtic FC, 23rd October, 124 Avios
  • Atlético de Madrid vs LOSC Lille, 23rd October, 11 Avios
  • BSC Young Boys vs FC Internazionale Milano, 23rd October, 35 Avios
  • FC Barcelona vs FC Bayern München, 23rd October, 27,100 Avios
  • FC Salzburg vs GNK Dinamo, 23rd October, 11 Avios
  • Girona FC vs ŠK Slovan Bratislava, 22nd October, 11 Avios
  • Juventus vs VfB Stuttgart, 22nd October, 31 Avios
  • Manchester City vs AC Sparta Praha, 23rd October, 5,900 Avios
  • Paris Saint-Germain vs PSV Eindhoven, 22nd October, 1,600 Avios
  • RB Leipzig vs Liverpool FC, 23rd October, 570 Avios
  • Real Madrid C.F. vs Borussia Dortmund, 22nd October, 28,000 Avios

Use Avios for Formula 1 Paddock Club tickets

Don’t forget The O2 packages too

Qatar Airways Privilege Club auctions off two tickets for each concert at The O2 in London.

Tickets for The O2 concerts come with access to The NinetyThird, the new private club at The O2, and £400 (!) to spend on food and drink in the club.

My review of The NinetyThird launch event is here. You also get to take some Instagram pictures from The Walkway, pictured above.

How can you bid for Privilege Club Collection experiences?

Privilege Club Collection will eventually have a mix of ‘buy it now’ and auction experiences, although everything currently listed is for auction.

Here are two very important points to note:

You must have Avios in a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account before you can bid. It is NOT good enough to have Avios in a British Airways Executive Club account which is linked to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. You must have physically moved Avios across to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account.

(One snag here is that you can’t use the entire balance of a British Airways Executive Club household account to bid. The only Avios you can move into a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account are those in your own personal account. If you have 100,000 Avios and your partner has 50,000 Avios to give you a household balance of 150,000 Avios, the most you could use to bid for a single Privilege Club Collection auction is 100,000 – ie your own balance.)

Your must have enough Avios in your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account to match your maximum bid. You cannot bid more than your current Avios balance, and you cannot set a future auto-bid which is higher than your balance.

This Head for Points article explains how to link your BA and Qatar Airways Privilege Club accounts and transfer Avios between them. Transfers are free, instant and can be reversed at any time.

Conclusion

Some of these Champions League games which are taking part in countries where Avios and/or Qatar Airways are not well known will go for a steal.

Do check out flight options before bidding though!

  • BSI1978 says:

Feel some of those bid sums may be a typo, unless people really are going in with low-ball bids!

    • SydneySwan says:

I am leading the bidding on the Stade-Brestois-29-vs-Bayer-04-Leverkusen match with 1 avio.

    • Rob says:

Not a typo. No-one knows these auctions exist.

    • Nico says:

I looked at the psg barca tickets last year and went up to 60k or so at the end for 2, which was still reasonable. Auctions are extendable so increases quite at the end.

  • AC says:

I don’t see any Man Utd matches 🙁
Then I realise these are Champions League not Championship

    • BSI1978 says:

There wouldn’t be any championship games for them either (not until next season at the earliest….!)

      • AC says:

They can realistically be in both next season correct? Win Europa and get relegated, wonder what that would mean for the manager.

        • Ryan says:

Teams have been in Europe before and Championship, Wigan from a few years back rings a bell. They had a mammoth season of like 60+ games

          • FLCL says:

Interesting, good point, given Man Utd’s constant excuse of having too many games (as a man utd fan) – one would fear that were to happen, then we could realistically see Utd in League One the season after.

  • Matthias says:

Does anyone know if these are giftable? The T&Cs say “non transferrable” but not sure how enforced that actually is – feel like in this case might be high risk though.

Or my friend could just pretend to be me, I assume they won’t check IDs on the day.

  • Fazzy Bear says:

Qatar took over from Turkish Airlines as official airline sponsor of the Uefa CL.

Expect to see more CL related auctions in future

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

“You must have PHYSICALLY moved Avios across to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account”

I’m wondering how you physically move an Avios given it is a non-physical entity. Do you print them out like a massive roll of modern-day Green Shield Stamps and carry them into Qatar’s office? 😉

  • captaindave says:

Given the Villa ticket prices for CL games, avios deal could end up being a bit of a bargain….

  • Adam says:

Is it known whether I have to buy this for myself in my own name or whether I’ll be able to make them out to someone else’s name (for example as a gift) if I win them and transfer them to that person electronically somehow?

    • Rob says:

No but unlikely, football being a bit of a stickler for ID checks at this level – especially as you’re in the official UEFA hospitality area.

      • DeanC says:

In Italy, even if you were to buy a bog standard ticket for a regular domestic league match they insist on ID, your name is printed on the ticket and they do check it at the perimeter of the stadium and turnstile. They are a lot more rigorous than UEFA themselves who always say they may ask for ID but never do.

  • Morgan says:

The O2 experience is much better than Qatar’s Brooklyn Barclays Center set up. In Brooklyn, we were only people in the box (great you might say) but no drinks, no meals or snacks, literally no hospitality and just a seat. With the box quite far from the stage, it was arguably poor value.
