IHG One Rewards has announced a new global promotion following a fallow few months when only targetted offers were made available.

IHG One Rewards is the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo amongst other brands.

You need to register here.

IHG One Rewards Autumn promotion

You can learn more about IHG One Rewards in our overview article here.

How does IHG’s new bonus points promotion work?

The offer runs from 19th September to 31st December.

You must register in advance via this link. Registration is now open.

What will you earn?

As you can see:

REGISTER NOW: IHG launches its autumn bonus points promotion

…. you will earn 3,000 bonus points for every two cash nights you stay during the offer period.

Reward stays do NOT count.

Existing bookings DO count so there is no need to rebook anything.  Only one room per stay counts towards the offer, so if you are booking multiple rooms you should put each in a different name.

Your nights do not need to be back to back.

What is the bonus worth?

The standard earning rate in IHG One Rewards is 10 points per US$1 (77p) excluding taxes.  I value an IHG One Rewards point at 0.4p although you can often do better, which means your base return is 4p per 77p spent, ie just over 5.0%.

Of course, most HfP readers will have some sort of IHG One Rewards status.  This comes with a status bonus (applies to base points only):

  • 20% bonus for Silver Elite
  • 40% bonus for Gold Elite
  • 60% bonus for Platinum Elite
  • 100% bonus for Diamond Elite

Under this offer, and assuming you do an exact multiple of two nights, you get an extra 1,500 points (£6) per night.

This means that the offer is heavily geared towards people doing low value stays at, say, Holiday Inn Express-style hotels. There isn’t much here for anyone planning a week at InterContinental Maldives.

Conclusion

£6 of bonus points per night is unlikely to move your needle much, but it could represent an extra 5% to 10% back per night on stays at cheaper brands outside big cities.

Irrespective of the percentage return, you’d be silly not to register – click here to register – if you will do the nights anyway.

The offer kicks in for stays from 19th September but you can register today.

  • DK says:

Would this count for stays that start before the 19th of September and continue into these dates?

    • MikeHi says:

With a 2 week stay starting this weekend, I would be very happy if the answer was yes..

  • Swiss Jim says:

On a strict reading of the terms they should. Whether their systems cope / whether you’ll need to put in a claim who knows.

  • Swiss Jim says:

Only those nights on or after 19 Sept to be clear…

  • Ruralite says:

Register & if you are there on the 19th it should count from then onwards. Make sure you keep a copy of your receipt in case it doesn’t credit & you have to chase

  • HampshireHog says:

Do free ambassador nights count ?

    • Rob says:

You can never tell with those. I suspect if you get the elite night credit (and you should still get that, unlike I’m mistaken) then it should trigger the 3k as well.

      • Sharka says:

You get the ‘free night’ as a night credit on the Ambasador rate. As of August, it also triggered two-night bonus offers (I was registered for two at the time).

  • BJ says:

Unless one has an imminent stay it is best not to register now. It sends a signal to IHG (or other hotel schemes in their respective cases) that one is more likely than not to be booking. Best to leave ‘them guessing’ in the hope they will come forward with other personal incentives. In my experience they sometimes do although I cannot be certain that this is related to failure to register for the ‘global’ promotion or just coincidence. Whatever the case, there is no harm in delaying registration until a stay becomes imminent unless there is a registration deadline.

    • TGLoyalty says:

The harm is you completely forget to book.

Or the offer disappears before you get a chance (not possible here) but others end registration a few weeks before the end of the promo.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Forget before you stay even not to book 🤣

        • Matt says:

On the last summer promo I immediately registered for 8,000 points every 4 nights. I later received an offer of 20,000 points for 2 nights. The 2 offers combined so I got 28,000 for 4 nights (triggered August 2024). A good deal.

          • BJ says:

Hood deal, I was sorely disappointed not to get the 20k one but I gad been staying way many nights. My hunch is probably wrong anyway as the target lists for promotions are probably identified months in advance in many cases.

        • BJ says:

I gave you a while to spot it and you needed 2h 😉

    • John says:

Registering doesn’t change anything, it depends on how many bookings you actually have

  • L Allen says:

I noticed there was another offer in my IHG account that may have been covered here but sharing just in case….

Stay 5 nights in an IC Club room before 31 December and get Platinum status. Need to register for it. I did it in the app so don’t have a link.

  • Marie says:

I’ve tried twice to enter for this promotion and each time it’s asking for a promotion code??
Also I’m a IHG member and this promotion is not showing on my account please can you advise?

    • Rob says:

Your internet security is too strong – it is stripping out everything at the end of the URL which includes the code.
