News in brief:

Le Meridien Maldives launches a points deal

The Le Meridien Maldives resort, one of the better value Marriott Bonvoy options, dropped us a note to say that it has joined the PointSavers programme.

Points bookings of 5+ nights for an Overwater Pool Villa are reduced by 20%. This is on top of the 5-4-4 discount that Marriott Bonvoy gives on reward bookings, under which the cheapest of the five nights is free.

The offer is available for bookings made for travel between May and September 2025.

The resort website is here.

You can see why BA dropped this route as there is clearly no demand!

    • TGLoyalty says:

Sure Finnair are using it for cheaper fares to Asia, they are consistently appearing as the lowest price option anytime i search for flights east

      • Londonsteve says:

Combine that with the longer flying times resulting in additional fuel burn and staff costs, their margins must be razor thin at the moment. The closure of Russian airspace for European carriers has had an outsize effect on Finnair whose entire business model is largely built on being able to fly across Russia to Asia!

        • BJ says:

Those are the basic fares which are great for the likes of me but they’ll maje extra from those adding seat selection, more bags etc. Better IMO to pay around £300 more, get those extras included and 300% miles on Alaska MP.

    • BJ says:

Nonsense, this summer and last flights to BKK were selling considerably higher than SIN if you ignored the Finnair options. Booking a year ago for niw BKK was typically £3000-3300 while SIN was widely available for as little as £2500 from MAN. Post the details at the time.

      • TGLoyalty says:

        What’s nonsense?

        • BJ says:

That low yields are the reason BA do not operate BKK to the extent they previously did.

          • TGLoyalty says:

I think it was tongue in cheek 😅

          • ABS says:

The people who said that BKK wouldn’t return to the BA network were mocked constantly online. BA have already extended this route by a month in to April next year.

I can see in the next year or so, this going daily, year round and even the possibility of it returning to Heathrow as more frames are delivered.

On the wide bodies, OWE can choose the premium economy seats. Also for OWE, the new Schengen, and even better, the non-Schengen lounges are superb. Also for all: if booking using Avios, Finnair offer complimentary connections to Stockholm, Warsaw, and other destinations in northern Europe.
