British Airways adds London Stansted to Geneva flights

Following on from the recent announcement that British Airways will launch flights from London Gatwick to Chambery, another winter ski route has been added.

Flights from London Stansted to Geneva will launch on 14th December.

British Airways adds London Stansted to Geneva flights

The flight will be operated by BA Cityflyer, the subsidiary which operates Embraer 190 services from London City Airport.

As usual with these services, it is being operated to keep the Cityflyer fleet earning money whilst London City Airport is closed for 24 hours over the weekend.

There will be one flight per week on a Saturday, starting on 14th December. The last flight will be on 20th April.

The timings are odd because the aircraft will be flying a ‘W’ formation, starting and ending at a different airport:

  • The outbound is on SUNDAY, leaving Stansted at 11.25 and landing in Geneva at 14.05
  • The inbound is on SATURDAY, leaving Geneva at 16.00 and landing in Stansted at 16.40

Premium and elite status passengers at London Stansted will have the pleasure of using the Escape lounge which we reviewed here.

Flights are bookable now for cash or Avios at ba.com.

  • Bernard says:

With densification of the E190, sparse frequency and no backup at Stansted why wouldn’t you fly Jet2 instead, or easyJet from Southend?
There’s no lounge, avios on economy fares are paltry and Jet2 has a much better more reliable product.

    • Catalan says:

I’ve never flown Jet2. How is their product better and more reliable?
      Genuine enquiry

      • Rob says:

        Very good, especially crew.

      • T says:

        Jet 2 are great.

      • Bernard says:

If it’s a 737-800 the first seats in row 2 have acres of space.
Always seem to try to get the flight away even if delayed. Respect for any company that takes the EU261 risk to get me to my destination rather than whimsically cancel.
Also seem to have their own checkin and boarding staff at Stansted, so it seems to work

        • Richie says:

@Bernard Jet2 are famous for delaying Mr Huzar and his family at Alicante. BACF are now famous for treatment of the Lipton couple at Linate. Neither of them deserve any respect for EU261 ‘get me to my destination’ obligations.

    • The Original David says:

When did Jet2 introduce free snacks and a full bar service in Economy? I haven’t flown them for a while tbh, it must have changed!

      • TGLoyalty says:

The snack is worthless, just buy it in the terminal for £1.

Are you suggesting BA have a full bar service? Because they both offer BoB for anything but water, again less than £2 for a bottle.

        • ScienceTeacher says:

CityFlyer flights do not have buy on board; it is a full bar service in Y and J.

        • daveinitalia says:

This isn’t BA, it’s BA Cityflyer and still has the free bar and no BoB

  • Qrfan says:

Sunday outbound and Saturday inbound for a ski trip is really not ideal. I also hope they have fixed the oversize baggage belt that left our double buggy at the airport last year…

    • SamG says:

I think the main audience for these flights is people who are London airport agnostic or who mix and match carriers

Certainly living in East London like I used to I’d have had no problem going into City and out of Stansted or vv and this offers up more timing options than they’re otherwise able to at the weekend due to the LCY closure whilst keeping the aircraft productive

  • Richie says:

Emirates is, apparently, building a Lounge at Stansted, it’s not yet known when it’ll be complete and open. On sunday 15th Dec EK’s first flight to Dubai is at 2.05pm. BACF has 3 flights on the same day, the last one departing to GVA at 11.25am. It’d be interesting to see if BACF and EK do a deal for access to this lounge on a sunday morning for BACF passengers.

    • Rob says:

It will be where the old No1 Lounge was, on the pier that Emirates uses. Will be open by Christmas apparently.

  • Ironside says:

Not BA’s fault, but this is more weekend ski traffic through GVA which simply can’t handle it.

Sure, you’re on a nice, relatively small E190 but you’ll join the passport queue behind several 777s that arrived shortly before you. Meanwhile, the passport officials on the other side of the airport are twiddling their thumbs because no-one thought to match up staff location with aircraft gates.

That said, it’s usually fine during the week!

  • HertsCanuck says:

So if you want to ski for a week, and if desired accommodation is on a weekly basis, this won’t work as you are out on a Sunday and back on a Saturday. Not great.

  • Russ says:

You have your flight times wrong on the return trip from Geneva to Stansted is not 40 minutes so you need to correct the times in your story

    • Rob says:

Eh? Geneva is an hour ahead of London so the flight time is 1hr 40m.
