Earn 2,000 Avios at Hertz with a new Qatar Airways Privilege Club offer

Qatar Airways Privilege Club has launched a generous deal with Hertz if you are looking to hire a car this summer.

Book any rental, in any car class, and you will earn 2,000 Avios.

This is an excellent return, especially on shorter cheaper rentals.

Here is the small print:

• you must credit your rental to a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account and not any other Avios airline account

• you must book your rental between 1st July and 31st July

• you must pick up your rental between 1st July and 30th September

• you must use code CDP 552665 and promotion code PC 211510 when booking

• your rental must be for 1-28 days

• valid on all car groups

• only valid in ‘participating’ Hertz locations – this generally means that franchised sites will not quality

You should double-check the rate that is thrown up by using the CDP code above with any other CDP codes you can access. It may be that other codes generate a lower price even though you won’t get 2,000 Avios. That said, the Qatar Airways CDP should knock 10% off the base rental price.

In particular, American Express Platinum cardholders should try their Hertz code, which also comes with a four hour grace period – we explained how that works here.

Is this the best Hertz deal available?

Probably, as long as the pricing holds up against other CDP codes.

Here are the two most relevant alternatives for a UK reader:

Earning Virgin Points via Hertz

Virgin Atlantic devalued its Hertz partnership last year.

You used to receive a flat 1,000 Virgin Points per rental. If you had only rented a car for a day or for a weekend, you were doing very nicely.

As you can see on the Virgin Atlantic website here, the deal with Hertz has moved to the more traditional revenue based route. You now earn 5 Virgin Points per £1 spent on qualifying rentals.

Unless you were spending over £400 – and that is £400 on the base rental before concession fees etc – the Avios deal is better.

Earning IHG One Rewards points via Hertz

There is a little known partnership between Hertz and IHG One Rewards, the Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc hotel scheme.

IHG One Rewards offers Diamond Elite members Five Star status with Hertz – click for more details – which is an extra incentive to book.

All IHG One Rewards members, irrespective of status level, can earn points when they rent from Hertz.  Full details are on the IHG website here. You earn:

• 1,500 IHG One Rewards points per rental (we’d value these at £6)

plus

• an extra 125 IHG One Rewards points per day for non-status members, or
• an extra 500 IHG One Rewards points per day for status members

This is pretty generous, especially for Silver, Gold, Platinum or Diamond Elite members who are guaranteed at least 2,000 IHG points per rental. However, £8-worth of IHG points is worth a lot less than 2,000 Avios via the Qatar Airways Privilege Club deal.

How to get FREE car rental status and other benefits via UK credit cards (April 2025)

If you hire a car in the UK, you can get special benefits (discounts, upgrades, free additional drivers etc) if you have elite status with a car rental programme. You can get elite status for free via certain American Express cards.

The Platinum Card and American Express Business Platinum

The Platinum Card from American Express and American Express Business Platinum come with two free car hire status cards. Your supplementary Platinum cardholder can also receive status in their own right.

From Avis, you receive President’s Club status in Avis Preferred. This gets you up to 25% off standard rates, a free additional driver and a guaranteed one class upgrade. For weekend rentals you will receive a two class upgrade, subject to availability.

From Hertz, you receive ‘Five Star’ status in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. This gets you up to 15% off standard rates, a free additional driver and a one class upgrade, subject to availability.

Hertz also offers Platinum cardholders a 4 hour grace period on rentals. Your final day is treated as 28 hours, so a 1pm pick up with a 5pm return the following day is only charged as one day, not two days. We wrote about the Hertz / Platinum 4 hour grace period here.

The Platinum Card also comes with full car hire insurance with no obligation to pay for the rental via American Express. You can refuse any attempts to sell you additional insurance at pick up. This benefit has substantial value if you rent on a regular basis.
