News in brief:

An update on HSBC’s 25% Avios transfer bonus

As we covered last month, HSBC has launched its ‘roughly annual’ 25% bonus on conversions of HSBC Premier credit card points to Avios.

The offer runs from 3rd June to 17th July.

The 25% bonus has historically been added instantly, although the T&C say that it can take 14 days. We were a little surprised when readers reported that the bonus was not appearing straight away, but the rules did allow for this.

However, a couple of days ago the 25% bonus did start posting instantly for new transfers.

If you transfer points from HSBC to Avios today, you should get the bonus within minutes.

The big question is what happens to people who transferred between 3rd June and (roughly) 27th June? It is now beyond 14 days for those who jumped in early and no bonus has appeared.

The HSBC call centre has been less than useful, including telling some people that our article was untrue. This is despite the fact that the conversion is promoted via a pop-up in the app.

Hopefully HSBC and/or Avios can get this fixed quickly.

IHG is running a short European sale

IHG has launched a ‘Book Early and Save’ promotion covering its hotels in Europe.

This is a surprisingly long offer – it runs until 12th September and you can book for any date in the future.

The headline offer is 15% off Best Available Rate, albeit sale rates are non-refundable and non-cancellable. In reality, you are probably saving about 5% on the usual Advanced Purchase rate.

You can find out more on this special page of the IHG website.

Remember that you may also have been targetted for an IHG / American Express cashback offer. This is worth £75 back when you spend £300 at participating IHG hotels across Europe by 11th August. You can find out more here.

Can you transfer your points from the app on your phone or do you have to do
    It on a proper computer?

    • Steve says:

Must be on computer— app doesn’t have this functionality

      • TGLoyalty says:

You can do it on your phone but via a browser to the website not the HSBC app.

  • Paul says:

Just spoke to HSBC Customer Services. I transferred 30,000 HSBC points to 15,000 Avios on 11 June. That shows but to date no bonus of 3,750 as of 1 July. Took a little time for them to confirm the offer and was given an apologies and promise to resolve within 7 days (we shall see) The call centre guy also gave an excuse that they accidently sent out an email to all Premier card holders saying their points were expiring which has created a surge in demand ( I didnt get one!!!!)… so will wait 7 days and if unsuccessful will be on the blower again!!!

    • Red Flyer says:

I got that expiry email and was confused because had deposited all of my existing points 10 days previously to this offer on 8 June – bonus still not showing as of today.

    • Paul says:

Bonus points posted for me too, with a few extra as others have reported.

  • Pol says:

How long do the sign up bonus points take to post. Hit the 2k spend an out 5 weeks ago, but no 40,000 bonus points yet. Was really hoping to get them before the 25% ended.

  • Dan says:

    OK thanks

  • Rom says:

My 25% which I transferred 6/6 just posted this morning!

  • Tom says:

This morning I received the 25% bonus I was owed for transfers made on 6th and 26th June. I also got an additional 25% of the bonus 25% for both transfers. So, for the small 120 point transfer I received the bonus 30 Avios plus an additional 8 Avios.

    • Tom says:

ah yes! I think because they posted manually they added the bonus again :D. Maybe some small compensation for the delay!

    • Numpty says:

Same here, points bonus for transfer from 5 and 6th all posted this morning.

      • Numpty says:

also seem to have received a couple extra avios transfers, for which i cannot work out the maths on a 25% bonus. I’ll let them off and not complain.

      • Geoff says:

Got mine too. Never in doubt!

  • DanC says:

Mine finally arrived, and with the 25 on 25. Nice as I had transferred almost 60k Avios 🙂

    • Rom says:

Couldn’t figure out why I had extra avoid from avios until I came here…. Have some more to transfer now at the nominal 25% boost 😂
