5,000 Virgin Points via Clubcard for OVO Energy customers – even existing ones

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

It’s been a long time since Tesco Clubcard had any meaningful third party partners for earning points, but a new deal has just been launched with OVO Energy.

What is interesting is that even EXISTING OVO Energy customers can pick up £25 of Clubcard points just for registering.

The deal isn’t restricted to new customers, although new customers will qualify.

5,000 Virgin Points via Clubcard for OVO Energy customers

How do you get your Clubcard points?

Take a look at the OVO Energy website here.

If you switch your gas and electricity to OVO Energy, you will receive 2,500 Tesco Clubcard points.

These are worth £25 to spend in-store, but as a HfP reader you are more likely to use them for 5,000 Virgin Points, £50 to spend at Hotels.com or with another of Tesco Clubcard’s spend partners.

Any fixed or standard variable tariff offered by OVO Energy qualifies.

The only snag is that you must have a smart meter to take part in the offer.

What about existing OVO Energy customers?

It’s effectively free money (or free points) for you, as long as you have a smart meter.

All you need to do is:

  • Log in to your OVO account
  • Go to your profile and select ‘Our partners’
  • Click on the Tesco Clubcard logo
  • Link your Tesco Clubcard and OVO accounts
  • Activate the offer in your Clubcard account

…. and you’ll get 2,500 Tesco Clubcard points within 60 days.

The offer runs to 11th June 2025, so you have plenty of time even if you are currently under contract to another energy supplier.

You can find out more on the OVO Energy site here.

Just done this – very easy. £25 of Clubcard points doubles up to £50 of spending at restaurants such as Pizza Express etc. – thanks for the tip!

  • Mike says:

Hi – if you’re an existing OVO customer it does appear in the list of partners on the app – you have to login via the website instead and parters are listed under your account / profile / partners

  • Jeremy says:

Smart meter and pay energy bill by direct debit.

    • Alex Sm says:

What’s wrong with that? I’m already doing this for years 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Sue says:

All done, am an existing OVO customer. Thank you!

  • JPK says:

    Smart meter? No thanks.

    • flyforfun says:

The only thing smart about them is that – 1) you don’t have to go outside or into a cupboard to read your meters. 2) you don’t have to submit readings as it’s done for you. 3) you see in monetary terms what you’re using every day, week, month. This can nudge people into thinking about how to change their usage, ie using the over more efficiently, how long the central heating needs to be on for etc.

      So, not that smart really.

Some people have been watching too many conspiracy videos on Facebook 🙂

The Royal Family are NOT lizards in disguise, just to be clear.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Honestly, why not? What do you fear?

    • Alex Sm says:

      Whyyyyy? 😳

  • Not Long Now... says:

Love to but our smart meters aren’t, unfortunately. Might try anyway as we have been on a smart meter only tariff for the last 5 years despite not having working smart meters.
JPK, go on then, why not?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Most energy companies will replace the old SMETS 1 meters now the SMETS 2 can be used by any energy firm (was bonkers to not think of this for the first generation!)

      • Not Long Now... says:

Allegedly. After only 4 years of asking for replacement meters, as ours aren’t working, next month we are promised a visit to ‘assess the situation’. Every time we contact EDF, we end in a loop of “our smart meters don’t work.-.yes they do, otherwise you couldn’t be on your tariff and we’d have been in touch.-.you’ve just emailed asking us to submit readings as we haven’t provided any for 6 months.-.no, you’re on smart meters, you don’t need to provide readings.-.OK, how much energy have we used?.-.You need to provide readings so we can work that out”.
I really do wonder if whoever designed the script for ‘customer service’ replies even exists, or have we reached the stage of AI designing it’s own systems to use AI instead of humans…

        • flyoff says:

I had a similar thing with going round in circles with BG. I took the case to the Ombudsman and BG use a different customer service team when issues are escalated to the Ombudsman. My meters were replaced with SMETS2 within 2 weeks.

        • TGLoyalty says:

I would raise a formal complaint. It’ll be escalated and if that CS is still useless ombudsman

  • Tracey says:

Done in a few clicks on the OVO app. All linked in seconds.

  • BJ says:

Good deal for existing customers. For switchers British Gas has some of the most competitive fixes at the moment. They allow penalty-free changes cheaper BG tariffs if they become available, and their refer a friend scheme currently splits £150 ( 2x £75 amazon vouchers)

    • Ryan says:

And then move around each provider, so take Octopus, So Energy, EDF in a cycle every couple months – pays for all my energy
