After finally launching its next-generation Allegris business class seat in May, Lufthansa has revealed where you can expect to find it for the rest of the year.

Eight routes will feature the new seats in 2024, although the airline stresses that these are subject to change.

Lufthansa Allegris routes for 2024

Since May, when the new aircraft entered service, Lufthansa has been operating its Allegris-enabled A350s from Munich to both Toronto and Vancouver.

This is only a temporary service, however. From July, Toronto and Vancouver will be replaced by Chicago and Montreal.

In August, Allegris will make its debut in Asia with flights from Munich to Shanghai, whilst flights to San Francisco will also be added.

Then, from late October – in time for the winter timetables – flights to Bengaluru and Cape Town will also be upgraded to the new business class seats.

With the exception of Toronto and Vancouver, all routes will continue into the winter season. At a glance:

  • Munich – Vancouver: starting May through July 2024
  • Munich – Toronto: starting May through July 2024
  • Munich – Chicago: starting July 2024
  • Munich – Montreal: in July 2024
  • Munich – Shanghai: starting August 2024
  • Munich – San Francisco: starting August 2024
  • Munich – Bengaluru: starting end of October 2024
  • Munich – Cape Town: starting end of October 2024

What you can expect from Allegris

The A350s feature a four class cabin, including the impressive Allegris First Class suites (image above). Manufacturing delays mean that the first A350s are operating with an empty space where First Class will be. The First Class suites will then be installed at a later date when they are ready – Lufthansa says they will be available from the fourth quarter.

Despite the (record breaking?) delays to launch, the Lufthansa Allegris cabins are a sorely needed update to their dated existing seats, some of which still do not feature direct aisle access.

Overall, Allegris appears to be more evolution than revolution, although it does offer some genuine innovations including in-seat heating and cooling, which I explored in more depth here.

The business class cabins introduce five different seating variations. Fortunately, Lufthansa has given them pretty clear names:

  • Front-row Suites
  • Classic Seats
  • Privacy Seats
  • Extra Long Bed Seats
  • Extra Space Seats

All seats have direct aisle access. Notably missing is a door, which is only available on the front-row business-plus Suites.

During the introductory phase of the rollout, Lufthansa says all seats will be made available free of charge. After that, however, you will have to pay an additional fee to select ‘additional comfort’ seats. Classic seats will remain free to select.

How to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards (April 2025)

None of the Star Alliance airlines currently have a UK credit card.

There is, however, still a way to earn Star Alliance miles from a UK credit card

The route is via Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty points convert to over 40 airlines at the rate of 3:1.

The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is via the official Marriott Bonvoy American Express card. It comes with 20,000 points for signing up and 2 points for every £1 you spend. At 2 Bonvoy points per £1, you are earning (at 3:1) 0.66 airline miles per £1 spent on the card.

There is a preferential conversion rate to United Airlines – which is a Star Alliance member – of 2 : 1 if you convert 60,000 Bonvoy points at once.

The Star Alliance members which are Marriott Bonvoy transfer partners are: Aegean, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines.

Finally. Their business class product was crap for solo travellers.

    • Rob says:

It’s going to be around for a long time yet!

    • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

Still worth excluding LH from any long haul flight search on Google Flights, Skyscanner, et al. The older cabin is too big a risk to encounter.

      • Novice says:

I know I meant that at least now they are doing something about it 😂

      • patrick C says:

If you are a couple and are tall it is one of the best seats out there as the seat length is substantially better then mist of the competition, for example much better then qatar non q-suite.
Service is also sometimes superior to the middle eastern carriers which are often fake, annoying and teally not that attentive.

        • Tom says:

Yes, who wouldn’t prefer some honest German rudeness / passive aggressive service over those ‘fake’ Middle Eastern carriers trying to be nice to passengers (they’re all the same, of course)

I don’t even understand the non-Qsuite point, Qatar’s Qsuite isn’t that long / is sort of an issue if you’re tall, but their non-Qsuite 777s have longer bed length than the Lufthansa seat.

    • Throwawayname says:

Personally I don’t have a huge problem travelling solo in 2-2-2 configurations (just getting an aisle seat from the middle pair), but it’s been a long time since I flew LH outside of Europe as I am neither keen on the mediocre soft product nor the huge surcharges for redemptions or policy of 0 mile earning on other *A FFPs for P-class (cheap business) bookings. That’s not going to change with Allegris, so the only thing I am going to be looking at is whether they will try to increase their fares originating from the UK, France, Scandinavia and other foreign markets as their deals often ensure the competition are forced to match their prices.

  • Richie says:

Some LH MUC-LCY-MUC flights would be good for a bit of feed.

  • Marc says:

For Montreal, it reads “In July”, rather than “Starting July” – do we assume it’s only one month for this route then, before they focus on Shanghai and SF?
