Hilton is adding a new hotel in York to add to the two existing Hampton properties, the Hilton and the DoubleTree.

This one could not be more different to your standard boxy Hampton by Hilton hotel as you can see from the image below.

Elmbank is:

Elmbank York hotel Hilton

A boutique Art Nouveau hotel in historic York. Minutes from the heart of York city, overlooking the Knavesmire Strays, lies the Elmbank Hotel, a unique 19th-century mansion with a rich history.

Redesigned by Mackintosh contemporary, George Walton, the Elmbank Hotel is home to one of the finest and most complete Art Nouveau collections in the UK. Guests experience impressive stained glass, beautiful murals, and detailed stencils as they walk through to their thoughtfully designed and elegantly styled bedrooms. Each room features unique artwork celebrating Elmbank’s prominent Yorkshire history, alongside modern amenities including en-suite bathrooms with hand-crafted GOLEM tiles, flatscreen TVs, WiFi, and tea and coffee facilities.

Rich in art, culture and flavour, Elmbank’s Leetham’s Brasserie offers premium, locally sourced, and seasonal dishes in a beautiful and inviting space. Adjoining to the Brasserie is the opulent Peacock Bar. With trained mixologists, a curated, locally inspired cocktail menu and an extensive wine list, Peacock Bar is one of York’s finest spaces to discover. Here, guests can take a seat at the marble-topped bar or sink into relaxing sofas against a backdrop of original Art Nouveau treasures. In warmer weather guests can unwind on the private outdoor terrace.

Elmbank is a three star hotel which is joining Hilton’s Tapestry Collection. Tapestry is basically a less luxurious version of Hilton’s Curio Collection, allowing mid-market independent hotels to become part of the Hilton ‘system’.

Elmbank is showing on hilton.com with a ‘coming in June’ date but is not yet bookable. Click here for the website.

Heathrow loses two Priority Pass pubs

Two pubs at Heathrow have withdrawn from the Priority Pass restaurant programme.

This means that you can no longer claim an £18 food and drink credit when you visit them and show your Priority Pass card. Nothing changes if you have an American Express-issued Priority Pass as these do not participate in the Priority Pass restaurant programme anyway.

The two departing venues are:

  • The Oceanic Pub & Kitchen (Terminal 3, landside)
  • The Globe Pub & Kitchen (Terminal 5, landside)

The only remaining ‘restaurant’ partner at Heathrow is the Big Smoke Taphouse & Kitchen in Terminal 2, image below.

Same here – have tried both ways – from ALL website to Qatar and vice versa but still errors every time

  • B says:

My laptop autofilled my First Name to a different initial when setting up my Qatar Privilege Account. Now my name won’t match my avios account & I can’t transfer. 6 months, 2 hours of calls and 3 copies of my passport later, Qatar still won’t amend my name 😑

    • Dubious says:

Could you create a new account and then ask QPC to merge them?

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

Should be a good fit for Elmbank as it tends to get lost a bit. Not quite in the centre. Not quite on the Knavesmire. Not quite luxury. Not quite boutique. Interesting but not quite historic (not nearly by York standards!). Rooms got a major refurb just before Covid so will still be in the first half of their life cycle. The brasserie has attracted some positive noise since a refurb 2 yrs ago. If you remember it’s a 3* then should be happy. Can get a bum rap like a lot of hotels in that area, as on big race days like Ebor festival it will obviously be surge pricing so expectations get 5* and unrealistic.

    • RussellH says:

We got invited to the Ebor a few times before covid.
As you say, York prices utterly ridiculous
First time we stayed in Newcastle, at the Hampton (in the days when 10K points got you room opposite the station, and took the train, which worked well, but a longish journey.
Second time stayed in Leeds, but the trains were totally stowed out and not good.
Final time we stayed in Wakefield and were comfortable in our seats as we watched the hordes try to get on at Leeds. HI in Wakefield not particularly convenient for the station, but had very pleasant staff and no silly prices.

Read this article thinking that the it was a ‘new york’ hotel, not a new hotel in york, following the title!

  • Danny says:

Stayed in York at the Hampton Hilton at Piccadilly and staff were awful apart from those at breakfast.

Receptionist was bordering on rude and later on the same one was shouting at a Chinese tour group.

Room wasn’t ready on time. Had to ask for the HH Gold free items. The room wasnt cleaned properly and still had things in the fridge from the last occupant’s stay.

    Received 50% refund. Never again.

    • David says:

Interesting. We stayed at the Hampton Inn Picadilly over the late May bank holiday weekend and had a completely different, better, experience. Room was ready on time and was large, clean, modern and comfortable. We had a corner room on the top floor which had nice views of Clifford’s Tower. I honestly couldn’t fault it, and it was a vastly better experience to our stay at the York Hilton, even though we had a 2-room suite on that occasion. The staff were pleasant enough and the HH Gold items were offered without request. The included buffet breakfast is pretty standard. Location-wise it’s hard to beat too imo. We are quite often in York visiting family and will stay there again without a second thought.

      • Danny says:

They must have bucked their ideas up after I was there 😂 This was a year ago but it left such a bad impression that I still wouldn’t return (I’d booked the highest category room).

I tried the Indigo after and it was much better but not cheap.

I’ve looked at the Hilton York and the rooms look like have come out of the Ark.

  • Lady London says:

That hotel looks very interesting, as @SavageSquirel has said becoming a Hilton Tapestry hotel will hopefully bring it business provided people understand it’s 3 star.

I’d be interested if anyone that stays there would be kind enough to put a mini-review on the HfP forum. It kind of looks like it has to rely on selling F&B and not just on rooms, so I’ve got an idea the rooms may be a bit quirky and would like to know.

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

On my one ever overnight stay my room was most certainly, er, “quirky” ( in a worst room in the hotel probably a converted mop cupboard sort of way) although as this would be in my more youthful and cost conscious days some 20 years ago (I probably asked for their cheapest room) it’s not useful information about the state of things today 🤣.

Fun fact though – I did manage to mildly impress the – at that point single – future Mrs S (or she at least politely feigned the same), and probably annoyed everyone else, by knocking out a few tunes on the piano in that picture (although not sufficiently that she ever saw the dodgy hotel room 🤣), so happy memories 😁.

  • Daniel Atkinson says:

I think it is is worth pointing out that you don’t get the Avios from Qatar if you book a hotel in the same country as your address. So this severely limits the usefulness if staying domestically

    • Rob says:

Whilst that rings a bell, I got a huge pile from my Fairmont Windsor Park stays at Christmas.
