NEW: Redeem Virgin Points for the new Virgin Red VIP box at The O2 in London

Well, this was a pleasant surprise to receive in my inbox.

Since it launched, Virgin Red has had a box, the Virgin Red Room, at the AO Arena in Manchester. You have been able to redeem Virgin Points for seats – this article shows you what Sinead found when she gave it a try last year.

Virgin Red has now added a box at The O2 in London. 12 artists are now bookable for June and early July, including Peter Kay and Liam Gallagher.

This may, or may not, be the box that Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines were using but weirdly never offered up for redemptions or any sort of customer event.

Virgin Red didn’t supply us with any photographs, presumably because:

Virgin Red will be adding some sparkle to the room in true Virgin style this summer, so keep your eyes peeled for renovation news

The images below are of the Virgin Red Room in Manchester.

This is what you need to know:

  • the box contains 28 seats, so it is larger than the Marriott Bonvoy box at The O2
  • tickets are bookable with Virgin Points via the Virgin Red app
  • tickets come with access to the fast track entry lane at The O2
  • tickets come with two free drinks per person
  • food, and additional drinks, will be available for purchase in the box

What concerts are currently bookable?

The first wave of redemptions have just gone live.

You can book (price is for two people, these are all ‘buy it now’ deals):

  • Peter Kay, Sunday 2nd June (35,000 Virgin Points)
  • J Balvin, Wednesday 5th June (35,000 Virgin Points)
  • Tool, Monday 3rd June (30,000 Virgin Points)
  • Thirty Seconds to Mars, Tuesday 4th June (35,000 Virgin Points)
  • Liam Gallagher, Thursday 6th June / Friday 7th June / Monday 10th June / Tuesday 11th June (45,000 Virgin Points)
  • The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer, Saturday 8th June (45,000 Virgin Points)
  • Doja Cat, Friday 14th June / Monday 17th June (60,000 Virgin Points)
  • James, Saturday 15th June (35,000 Virgin Points)
  • IVE, Sunday 16th June (40,000 Virgin Points)
  • Karol G, Tuesday 18th June / Wednesday 19th June (40,000 Virgin Points)
  • USA Basketball Showcase, Monday 22nd June / Tuesday 23rd June / Saturday 20th July (30,000 Virgin Points)
  • Megan Thee Stallion, Wednesday 17th July (50,000 Virgin Points)

This is your third route to O2 tickets

Remember that there are two other routes to getting tickets for events at The O2:

  • Got Marriott Bonvoy points? Marriott Bonvoy has its own suite – tickets are made available, usually on a ‘buy it now’ basis, for points via the Marriott Moments website here. The box is now closer to the stage after it was relocated, and food (a hot buffet) and unlimited standard drinks are included in your package.
  • Got Avios? Qatar Airways has the ultimate VIP experience – a pair of tickets per show is auctioned for Avios for The NinetyThird, the exclusive new club at The O2 via Privilege Club Collection. I reviewed it here. Membership of The NinetyThird would otherwise cost you £18,000 for a year, to give you an idea of its exclusivity. Your tickets come with £400 (not a typo) to spend on food and drink whilst you are there – easily spent, given the champagne bar and the fine dining restaurant.

There’s really no excuse now for missing out on concerts at The O2 …..

If you want to top up your Virgin Points for a future concert redemption, you now receive 18,000 Virgin Points as a sign-up bonus with the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Mastercard. Our full review is here and you can apply here.

  • The real Swiss Tony says:

Given its legacy in the music industry and the big debacle there is over the survival of smaller music venues in the UK, I wonder if there’s a significant PR win to be had for Virgin by looking beyond the blindingly obvious choice of the O2. They could get proper reach across the country as well…

    • Novelty-Socks says:

Yeah I agree, imagine what they could do for grassroots live music venues! (Sadly I think this lacks the PR potential and wow factor they might be looking for.)

  • Geoff says:

“There’s really no excuse now for missing out on concerts at The O2 ”

It’s a rubbish venue so I’m more than happy to miss out

    • supergraeme says:

The worst thing about it for me is trying to get a beer, which this would sidestep….

      • paul says:

Roughly 10 years ago we were at the O2. Purchased 2 beers at £10 each and the kid next to my seat kicked it over. No apology by parent either.

As someone who worked world class concerts (Lionel Ritchie, Jackson’s, The Police etc) in the 80s at a 2,000 seat venue I really do hate these large sheds.

    • ken says:

A venue for people who don’t like music.

    • Panda Mick says:

apart from the utter dross that’s playing here.

Agreed. Never understood the appeal of stadiums.

With one exception: A-Ha were just incredible when I saw them there with their midsummer tour.

  • Mutley says:

Peter Kay and James at 35000 look a bargain compared to some of the here today and gone tomorrow artistes at 50000 and 60000 points.

Best laugh of last year was Martin Brundles response to one of the said artistes entourage at the Austin GP.

  • Kathy says:

Handy to have another way to redeem relatively small numbers of Virgin Points, given the price increases on the cruises.

No-one there I want to see at the moment though.

  • Phantomchickenz says:

This was mentioned (cryptically) by the host in the Red Room on Saturday night – where I paid 60,000 points to see Peter Kay. Feel like I’ve been ripped off now!

  • mhughes says:

Marriott and Virgin points have roughly the same value, somewhere between 0.5 and 1p. @ .75 p, 50K marriott for peter kay is £375. and 35K virgin is £262. So around £110 less for the virgin redemption.

The marriott tickets come with free food and unlimited drinks, the Virgin tickets come with 2 drinks each. So £110 for food and any drinks beyond 2 per person. One imagines purchasing food and drink in the virgin box won’t be at bargain basement prices, so likely not too hard to spend £50 p.p.

Not really a lot in it at the end of the day.

  • Dave Winch says:

The pricing here seems to have been written by someone in their 20s – overlooks that people in their 40s probably have more miles to splurge and are less likely to care about Doja Cat!

    • Rob says:

I admit I would not necessarily have priced it this way, but as (say) Liam is doing multiple nights and there are 28 seats in the box, I think they are trying to get it full as top priority.

    • Rhys says:

Surely it would be linked to cash pricing somehow?

  • LittleNick says:

Shame nothing for the Killers in July, already have tickets though mind

    • Rob says:

Sure they will appear later. Qatar auctions not gone live yet either.

    • Tracy McLaughlin says:

Agree, I’d swap my ridiculously expensive VIP seats for this with points instead. There no great view at the O2
