There are some decent deals available via the Hilton Experiences platform to see the KLM Open golf tournament in Amsterdam next month.

As we have written before, there are often good ‘experiences’ offers from Hilton, IHG, Accor and Marriott in Europe which offer excellent value due to reduced competition compared to UK deals. This is one of them.

There are VIP packages available for auction for each day from 20th to 23rd June. The minimum bid is around 50,000 Hilton points (which we’d value at £165ish) for two people. The packages all have zero or one bid each at the time of writing.

There are also ‘buy it now’ general admission tickets for just 15,000 to 20,000 Hilton Honors points per pair.

If you want the full KLM Open experience, there is a package available including a hotel stay, VIP tickets and the chance to tee off on Hole 3 with some of the pro players – with a prize if you get nearer to the hole than them.

You can find out more on the Hilton Experiences website here.

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards (April 2025)

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit and debit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

There are two dedicated Hilton Honors debit cards. These are especially attractive when spending abroad due to the 0% or 0.5% FX fee, depending on card.

You also receive FREE Hilton Honors status for as long as you hold the debit cards – Gold status with the Plus card and Silver status with the basic card. This is a great reason to apply even if you rarely use it.

We reviewed the Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card here and the Hilton Honors Debit Card here.

You can apply for either card here.

Very interesting. I compared a 7-night night stay for next year using purchased points and over £300 saving over the Honors discount rate.
With purchased points, would you still receive the usual stay/nights credit on check out?

    • Bigmaggot says:

Yes you get the stay credits. But you don’t get any points, does it still make a £300 saving?

    • Stu_N says:

Yes but you wouldn’t earn spend based points on the redemption. Consider the value of the points you’d earn on cash rate before deciding.

      • Peter K says:

You do still earn points on ancillary spend of course, just not on what you’d have spent on the room itself.

        • TGLoyalty says:

Which is about 10-15% back depending on elite status but probably still a saving …

  • Sam says:

Yes, aware no points will be earned on the stay.
I have two upcoming stays – a 5 night stay this year and 7-night stay next year. Currently both booked on the Honors discount rate.
If on a promotional purchase rate, the saving is marginal (when you factor in no points earned etc.), would this appeal to many?

    • The real Swiss Tony says:

Well it shouldn’t hold any appeal as you’re locking that money in with Hilton to buy the points now, rather than earning 6% interest in the bank. Both rates are “flexible”.

      • @mkcol says:

        6%? Where?

        • Gordon says:

Sadly, around 5% now, but the smart money was on NS&I September 2023 when that launched their 6.2% 1 year bond 😊

      • mhughes says:

You ignore disadvantage of “earning 6% interest in the bank”, which is the inability to lock a discounted room rate (via points) in now. Closer to the time either a 100% points promo may not be available, or the Honors discounted rate may have increased. And in the 12 months, there is a no-risk possibility that the points rate or will reduce, effectively making the room cheaper.

    • Rob says:

I just booked a €20,500 summer holiday stay using 880,000 Marriott points, which would be around £6k to buy in a promo. When it works, it works big time.

  • RussellH says:

    > the website now quotes in £ for UK residents

Does this mean that one can buy the points without FX fees and/or with a points credit card?

    • zark says:

Points.com have added 3.4% forex fees to the UK price, so no, you cannot.

      • John says:

Hmm, you may have to change your account to a US address then

  • K says:

I am only seeing an option to buy 160k points (with 128k bonus) and not the 240k points. Does anyone know why?

  • Julia says:

Is it possible to add Cruises to the forum? A fair few of my co-working digital nomads are now shifting their land hotel stays onto the water. It’s so much easier if one is doing a long term stay when the accommodation and work space moves instead of having to physically move stuff around. We are still earning points and in some cases we can status match with hotel groups. Virgin may be interested in sponsoring a thread?

  • Sam says:

As an example, 7 nights at the Hilton Palm Jumeriah next Easter is 420,000 points (£1,733 cost during this promotion).
The Honors Discount cash rate works out £2,058.
So around £300 saving, but factoring in that no points will be earned during the stay.
    So a modest saving then?
I’ve never purchased points previously but based on other people’s experiences, is this worth it?
Obviously without the 100% promotion it’s a clear no.

    • Rob says:

Is that a refundable cash rate? If not, flexibility is a clear benefit. A downside is that the points room will be the base level one and perhaps, for cash, a small extra on the rate would get you a bigger room / better view.

Also note that Hilton is 5-4-4 on reward nights. Is is better value to use points for 5 nights (only paying for 4, assuming you have Hilton status) and using cash for two?

Is there merit in paying cash for 2 nights at the start – in a better room – and asking nicely if the 5 reward nights afterwards could keep the same room?

      Many options ….

      • Sam says:

Hi Rob, yes that’s the refundable cash rate (1 day before).
        The 5-4-4 might be a better option – I’ll take a look.

    • TGLoyalty says:

The downside is if you don’t go you lose nothing with the cash booking but you still have £1700 worth of points which may or may not be a good deal for other hotels

  • ianM says:

    Car rental forum welcome

  • ianM says:

Hilton points are very poor value compared to IHG, from recent experience you can easily get IHG reward stays for well under half the Hilton point equivalent

    • Julia says:

Possibly swings and roundabouts; cheaper redemptions but Hilton has back-to-back promotions open to all unlike IHG’s targeted promotions.
