Since 2022 when Qatar Airways adopted Avios as its frequent flyer currency, you have been able to link your Privilege Club and BA Executive Club accounts, allowing you to combine your Avios into one pot.

If you book a cash flight with Qatar Airways by 15th April 2024, for travel by 30th September, you can earn up to 5,000 bonus Avios.

This is totally separate to the Avios offer we wrote about yesterday – click here – which gets you 25,000 Avios off a return Business Class redemption and 10,000 Avios off a return Economy redemption flight.

There are three other bits of small print:

  • you MUST have your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account linked to your British Airways Executive Club account
  • you must use code AVIOSBONUS24 when booking your flight on the Qatar Airways website
  • you need to credit your flight to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account – you can’t credit it to a British Airways Executive Club account (although, of course, you can transfer the Avios across to your BA account after you have flown)

You can learn more about the offer on the Qatar Airways website here.

Once your accounts are linked, transfer of Avios from one account to the other is immediate. There is no limit to how many times you can move Avios in either direction and transfers are free.

Linking your Qatar Airways and British Airways accounts is easy. Here’s our article on how to do it.

How many bonus Avios will you earn?

You will receive 5,000 bonus Avios with a Business Class ticket.

You will receive 2,500 bonus Avios with an Economy ticket.

You can book and see full terms and conditions here.

What other benefits do you get from linking your BA and Qatar Airways accounts?

Qatar Airways has an extensive network connecting the UK to destinations across Asia, Africa, Australia and the Middle East.

Although you can redeem on Qatar Airways via British Airways Executive Club, it is often better (due to more availability) to redeem directly through Privilege Club. This article details the Avios prices for the impressive list of redemption destinations the airline offers.

Qatar Airways bring more airline partners to earn and spend Avios with. Privilege Club opens up earning and spending opportunities with airlines you won’t find in Executive Club, including;

  • Bangkok Airways
  • JetBlue
  • Middle East Airlines
  • RwandAir
  • Virgin Australia

JetBlue is particularly interesting with their excellent economy and business class products flying direct to New York and Boston from Heathrow, Gatwick, Dublin and – soon – Edinburgh (JFK only).

There are also new hotel and car hire partners. You can earn Avios from stays at Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts via Qatar Airways Privilege Club, for example, as well as earn on car rentals from Hertz.

For an in-depth look at Qatar Airways Privilege Club partners, read our article here.

Extra benefits with Qatar Duty Free and Privilege Club Collection

Having an Avios balance in Qatar Airways Privilege Club rather than British Airways Executive Club also gets you access to unique benefits.

If you credit your Qatar Airways flight to Qatar Airways Privilege Club, you receive your Avios as soon as you check in! This allows you, if you wish, to spend them in Qatar Duty Free during your stopover. Virtually all shops and restaurants in Hamad International Airport accept Avios for payment.

You can also use your Avios to bid on unique experience via Privilege Club Collection. We have written about a few times in recent weeks, with VIP hospitality tickets for events at The O2 in London proving popular. These now come with a £400 food and drink credit to spend in The NinetyThird, the new VIP area in The O2. There will also be VIP British Grand Prix tickets available soon.

Book by 15th April

Remember that you need to book a cash flight with Qatar Airways by 15th April 2024, for travel by 30th September, to earn up to 5,000 bonus Avios

You can learn more about the offer on the Qatar Airways website here.

…….. but of course no BA tier points……

    • Alex G says:

Huh? Why wouldn’t you earn tier points? You can earn BA tier points on any OW airline (+ Aer Lingus)

      • Deek says:

You don’t earn BA tier points when you credit the flight to QR privilege club, which is the requirement here.

  • jonnyfly says:

Sacrificing the earning of a load of BAEC tier points just to earn 5000 Avios seems unattractive.

Does crediting to QA Privilege Club ever make sense for UK-based fliers?

“ Sacrificing the earning of a load of BAEC tier points just to earn 5000 Avios seems unattractive.”

Depends. Tier points are of zero value to me as I’ll never get to bronze/don’t care about getting bronze.

5000 avios are worth, at worst, £25 in Sainos though

      • Errol says:

I am UK based but credit to QR. I can’t always manage the few flights needed on BA metal. Some years I never fly BA.

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

It does if they are members of QRs scheme – which some might be for various reasons.

I know some US based people who credit to BAEC because it goves them lounge access in the US wereas AA status doesn’t though they are able to meet the 4 BA flight criteria to get silver / gold

  • Tony says:

Slightly OT but it does get a mention in the article… does anyone know if reward flights with Bangkok Airways via QA have to be done by phone? Can’t get any flights to show online when doing a search, not sure if it’s a glitch, no availability or just not possible online.

    Many thanks

when HfP first reported on the Bangkok Airways Avios option … “Lewis” commented on the post

“The bangkok airways redeeming is little weird. You have you choose flights on the Qatar site and then they tell you if they have avios seats available on them a few days later via a real human replying to an email.”

      • Tony says:

Thank you. Appreciate the response, I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be straightforward

  • Colin_Thames says:

I’m inferring from the article that flights need to be on QR metal and a QR codeshare (eg on BA metal) booked through Qatar site won’t work?
