LAST DAY: Save 25,000 Avios on a Business Class redemption with Qatar Airways

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Qatar Airways is running an impressive offer for anyone looking to get away over the next three months, but it ends today.

You can save 25,000 Avios on a return Business Class Avios redemption.

Redemptions in Economy Class are reduced by 10,000 Avios return.

This is an excellent deal, given that most destinations already require fewer Avios if you fly Qatar Airways than if you fly on British Airways.

How good a deal? Doha, for example, would be just 61,000 Avios return in Business Class. The rate if you fly British Airways on a peak date is 180,000 Avios return ….

Qatar Airways Avios redemption chart

Full details of the offer are on this page of the Qatar Airways website.

Here are the key points – please read them carefully before booking:

  • your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account must be registered to a UK address
  • this means that existing bookings do not count – you would need to register and then cancel and rebook any existing reward travel
  • your booking must be made via the Qatar Airways website and not the British Airways website
  • the rebate only applies to the Qatar Airways Privilege Club member
  • redemption flights must start in the UK
  • redemption flights must be return trips, not one way
  • you must book by today, Monday 15th April
  • you must travel by 30th June
  • you can earn the bonus multiple times

You will need a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account

In order to book, you will need to transfer your Avios (free, reversible) into a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account if you don’t already have one.

This HfP article explains how to transfer your Avios to Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

There is one snag to note. Qatar Airways does not have household accounts. This means that you can only transfer across Avios in your own BA account. If you have a BA Household Account containing 100,000 Avios (60,000 of yours, 40,000 from your partner) then the most you can transfer to your Qatar Airways account is 60,000 Avios. You won’t be able to make a booking for more than this.

The 25,000 Avios discount is paid as a rebate

The way the offer works is that you pay the full Avios price now, as shown in the table below.

Once your travel is completed, you will receive a rebate of 25,000 Avios for a Business Class redemption and 10,000 Avios for an Economy redemption.

The rebate will arrive within 30 days of completing your trip.

(Be aware that, for a mixed cabin redemption, you will only receive 10,000 Avios back if any leg of the trip is in Economy. This is a problem if flying to Dubai or elsewhere in the Middle East where you only have Economy and First for the connecting flight. You might as well book into First and get the higher 25,000 Avios rebate.)

This means that you will need the full Avios amount in your account in order to book, and not the reduced amount. For Doha, for example, you will need to have the full 86,000 Avios in your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account in order to book and will receive 25,000 Avios back after you travel.

Only the Privilege Club account holder receives the rebate

Irrespective of how many people are on the booking, it is only the named account holder who will receive the 10,000 Avios or 25,000 Avios rebate.

To maximise the Avios you get back, each adult passenger should make a separate booking from their own Qatar Airways Privilege Club account.

Obviously, in order to do this, each passenger needs enough Avios in their own British Airways Executive Club account in order to move them to their own Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. If you and your partner are in a Household Account but 90% of the Avios are in your name, you won’t be able to do this.

How much are Qatar Airways redemption flights?

Here is a table showing key routes from the UK to the Middle East, Asia and Australasia. I have ignored Europe and the US as this would make no sense due to backtracking.

Remember that Qatar Airways flies from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh, plus Dublin.

Qatar Airways uses ‘married segment availability’, which is a process aimed at sharing Avios availability across different starting points. This means that if you can’t see seats from Doha to Bangkok when starting in London, they may show when starting in Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh ….

You can’t use a British Airways American Express 2-4-1 Companion Voucher on Qatar Airways redemptions. However, with this discount, it will be cheaper on some routes to fly with Qatar Airways than use a 2-4-1 on British Airways …..

What do Qatar Airways Avios flights cost from the UK?

We have not included First Class flights in this chart. First Class is only available on the A380 fleet which only operates on selected routes, and Qatar Airways does not guarantee to make any First Class reward space available.

A word about ‘Flexi’ seats

Qatar Airways opens up additional seats on some flights where the standard Avios availability has gone. These are clearly marked as ‘Flexi’ during the booking process. These cost double the standard Avios cost.

A word about peak pricing

The peak and off-peak dates have not been published, and there is also no list of which routes are currently covered. The numbers below represent off-peak pricing, where peak and off-peak is being used.

Happy booking!

  • Dermot says:

I can find the ‘click to register’ button on the website.
I’ve got the details, and I’ve logged into my count.
I am being dumb and missing something!

    • Chas says:

The fact that it’s a rebate, so you won’t see the Avios price reduced?

    • Dan says:

Having the same issue, spoke to someone on the phone and they said to make the booking, screenshot the offer pages and raise a support request to get the avios credited. I also managed to get through to live chat who were adamant that the offer isn’t available to register anymore, despite them stating to me that it was until the 15th April, which I confirmed is of course….today!

    • Dermot says:

      ok thanks all.

  • Lawrence says:

I tried so many times and never got it to work. I gave up in the end 🙁

  • Namster says:

Never found any avaliablity for LHR to DOH before 30 June , only flexi, must he all the HFP members 🙂
